Why?Town

I'd have broke the roll open and counted the money while sliding it over to them.

I was a cashier several years ago and we were never allowed to accept rolled coins.

1) We didn't have time to count the coins. It slowed down the lines.
2) Not all customers are honest.  Some don't put coins in the rolls-they put a coin on each end and some kind of filler in the middle.

Last week I was shopping in a Cornersburg grocery store.  A man in front of me in the checkout line wanted to pay with one roll of coins.  The cashier would not take them.  He was told he could redeem them in the store's lobby coin machine.

I'm pretty sure these coin machines take a cut of the total value of the coins.
The store probably earns a fee for allowing the machine to be in the lobby.
