More Library Cuts Are Coming

Half of the budget goes toward health and human services.  Demand cuts in Medicare and tell them to put that money into running the libraries.

If additional state funding cuts take place, the new libraries in Youngstown will be closed while the new libraries in the suburbs will remain open.

I received this from the library today.  They mention libraries being forced to close...it would give them an immediate out to close West:

Governor Strickland's proposed budget cuts will reduce library funding by 50 percent. This severe cut would devastate our Mahoning County library system, as well as libraries throughout Ohio.

Libraries will be forced to close.

Please consider calling or emailing the Governor and your legislators to urge them to keep library funding strong. Let them know libraries are essential!

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County website has more information about the devastating cuts being proposed in the Governor's budget. We must ACT NOW to save our libraries throughout Mahoning county. The General Assembly's Conference Committee will likely make their decision about this proposal this week. PLEASE Contact legislators and make some noise!

He knows if he raises taxes he will lose in 2010, but it is beginning to look like if he doesn't raise them he will lose anyways!

According to WKBN radio news all but three of our branch librarys could be closed.

On the WKBN TV news today, it was reported that Governor Strickland will make additional cuts to the state funding for local libraries.

Instead of pitting one library branch against another, each community should start fundraising efforts to keep the entire Mahoning County library system functioning at a high level.
