Good news!

Quotefrom Yahoo:
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama will not adopt a policy to tax motorists based on how many miles they drive instead of how much gasoline they buy, his chief spokesman said Friday. Press secretary Robert Gibbs commented after Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told The Associated Press that he wants to consider the idea, which has been proposed in some states but has angered many drivers.

Rick Rowlands

Why tax anyone at all?  Just borrow the money that we need to run the government.  If it will work for the stimulus bill then why not just run everything that way?

Why?Town

It shouldn't affect driving at all. We are already taxed by the mile. The more you drive, the more fuel you use, the more fuel tax you pay. Been that way for all my time.

LaHood said he firmly opposes raising the federal gasoline tax in the current recession.

How is a new tax better than increasing an already existing tax?

What is the cost of implementing this new tax?

What is the cost of collecting the data?

What is the cost of collecting the tax money?

Are these costs cheaper than just raising the current fuel tax? I can answer this one, NO!

What is in it for Mr. LaHood?

Either way, increased taxes on driving would give positive benefits, BUT...

Mr. LaHood's proposal gives no incentive to drive more fuel efficient vehicles.   Raising the federal gasoline tax would.

Wonder what this will do to the share-a-ride aka car pooling idea?

If this goes into effect, it will help mass transet aka WRTA.

And what about those shopping trips or nights on the town?

If a family has to pay this kind of tax, I wonder how many will sell their second car and ration driving unnecessairly?

And what about those folks that try to help an elderly friend by taking them to doctors appointments and shopping?

Why?Town

Black boxes installed in EVERY car. Big Brother wants to be watching you.

Just raise the gasoline tax.

If you so much as drive your car just to work and back plans are afoot to slap you with a driving tax.

Transportation secretary says taxing how much we drive may replace gasoline tax

How much would you use your car if you knew that you would be taxed for every mile you drive?
