I noticed a tree in my neighborhood that looked pink in color from a distance of about hundred yards.  I got closer and discovered that the pink color was actually thousands of maple seeds.   While downtown today I also noticed a silver maple tree with thousands of maple seeds on the ground around it.

Is this an exceptional years for maple seed production?
