Communication Controversy in Deaf Education- Poland

When: Friday, May 10, 2019 - 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Where: Poland Library at PO Meeting Room (Large)

The History of Deaf Education began in ancient Greece. Deaf children were thought to be incapable of speech and reasoning until new discoveries were made in Europe in the 16th century.  The historic debate between two great education pioneers over sign language and oralism rocked Europe and the U.S. at the 1880 Milan Conference, and this 135-year unresolved issue caused a bitter division among educators and impacted education of deaf children.
