i say put down the law by forcing jay williams to enact the landlord registration law that has been on the books for over ten years. no more excuses from any of our city leaders. enough is enough with slumlords. i would like to see the next slumlord to be taken to the task in cleaning up their mess is Mount Calvary Penecostal Church that is the owner of the "Idora Park" This church was supposed to turn this formal park into a "City of God" that included retail shops, residenial living quarters and  to keep the nieghborhood stable. Jay
Williams/MVO must go after this landlord next or the citizens of youngstown will continue to see the "City of Garbage". Youngstown can no longer afford to look the other way when it comes to slumlords in the private or religious and government end of it

Please note:  This meeting was held on the south side of Youngstown but that this particular landlord owns over 350 homes in Youngstown. Many of these are not on the south side. Many of these are in the worst possible condition you could imagine. We are asking him to step up to the plate and fix or demo these blighted properties. This is nothing more or nothing less than what any homeowner in Youngstown should be doing.

This meeting was co-sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative which works with citizens groups all over Youngstown and Warren.

This is correct. He has contacted several City Council members, the MVOC, members of the block watch groups, and the Vindicator. He would like to conduct tours with some or all of the above and to potentially work out a reasonable agreement. A good faith contract has been drafted by the MVOC and blockwatch groups outlining reasonable demands with timelines. The next step will be a meeting with the representatives from all to discuss what can be worked out in the short term vs. long term. Citizens, the city, and the media working together to address common problems in the neighborhoods of Youngstown - still a lot of work to do regarding this campaign but it's a very good start and a great day for Youngstown. More to come.

P.S. And in case you missed it, here is a link to the Vindy editorial from last week supporting this campaign:

I've heard the targeted landlord is now willing to talk to the group to resolve some of the problems.
