Yes Yes Yes. For the last 20 years we have been hearing about downtown development. Progress has been sloow. Geeze, Downtown Sharon PA is nicer than ours. The local leaders, developers, and business people should be ashamed of thermselves. Thank god the arena became a reality thanks to Jim Trafficant! You missed the boat when the river boat gambling went by the way of the Mahoning River. LOL You need a major retail anchor, a chain resturant, a Starbucks, high quality niteclubs. And most of all a high police presense. The nightlife and type of clubs down there now, yield nothing but weekly brawls, fights, and trouble drawing the wrong type of people.  Just check the PD reports! If you want people from the burbs to come, clean up the blight, crime, trouble and move the street people along. Give them a reason to come downtown. It's unfortunate we have a local economy that has and is retracting. Young people really aren't moving here, but away because of the bleak employment. When I hear young people refer to Youngstown as an "armpit" I get that warm fuzzy feeling all over. ;-)

??? ??? ??? With all the Downtown development, think about having an automated People Mover system,(small cars,30 to 50 seated passengers, cars can be added as demand warrents). Think of this as a Horizontal Elevator. It can move people throughout Downtown, YSU, Perimiter Parking lots and garages. You could park anywhere on the outside lots, and get anywhere throughout the Downtown, Convention Center,YSU,Wick Ave. museams, etc.

No one said you said anything about a site location. Nor was it suggested that you said anything about tearing down buildings. I simply pointed out that the site has no incumbrances on it (to you, buildings).

I tossed it out as a SUGGESTION for the whole group to think about.
DIG?

The whole idea about a hotel pre-dates you by four years, and has always been a part of the plan from the day that Traficant got the money for the project.

The whole question was about where best to locate it, and the site I suggested in point of fact was one of the sites considered for the very reason that I advanced.

1. One and one half blocks away from the Convocation Center.
2. Closeness to an existing parking deck.
3. In a location that would allow businesses downtown to take advantage of the traffic.
4. The main entrance would be on Federal Street. A second entrance would be on Boardman Street.
5. Because the area is absent blight (Square going East) out of towners would feel more comfortable than if it was located on the West End.
6. It would open the first level of the Parking Deck to businesses that could draw from the hotel as well as the Convocation Center.

CAN YA DIG IT?

woe woe woe..

NO ONE SAID ANYTHING ON THIS SITE!

AND NO ONE SAID ANYTHING BOUT TEARING DOWN ANY BUILDINGS

IMHO: TEAR DOWN THE BLIGHT AND SHI-T DOWN THERE ASAP BECAUSE PARKING DOWN THERE IS GOD AWFUL!

kitten44505

BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO ADMIT THAT THE SITE IS A GREAT ONE, AND AT THIS TIME THERE ARE NO BUILDINGS THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE TORN DOWN.

A PERFECT LOCATION FOR A DOWNTOWN HOTEL

A perfect location for a hotel would be on Champion between East Federal and East Boardman.

WHY SAY YOU?

1. It would be across the street from a large parking deck.
2. It would be within walking distence of the Convocation Center.
3. A bridge could be built across the street from the hotel to the parking deck.

IT'S THE PERFECT LOCATION SAYS I, SAYS ME!

AND THAT'S ALL THAT NEEDS TO BE SAID.

When my brother was at city scape he and another man talked to 2 office owners in a building downtown and they have heard from a large amount of people downtown that DOUBLETREE HOTELS;  apart of the Hilton Hotel Group; http://www.doubletree.com/ is looking into building a hotel on the convocation center site.

I will bring you more info soon as I know a few people in the city development office of city hall!

BUT GREAT NEWS!! Especially because its a HILTON!

BTW: From most hotel images on the web most are larger hotels with at the very least 6 stories...... Some are longer with less stories or some are thinner with more stories.

Here is one hotel image in washington in a Smaller town...
