On Monday, May 19th from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m., the Mahoning Valley Task Force on Crime and Violence Prevention will be holding a Community Block Watch Summit at the Choffin's Career Center in downtown Youngstown.

The purpose of the event is twofold: 1) to provide information to law enforcement and citizens about the importance of block watches, and 2) to teach residents the skills necessary to play a proactive and productive role in reducing crime. Mr. Robert Fiatal, Superintendent of the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation for the Ohio Attorney General's Office will be the guest speaker.

There are many residents who want to get involved in their neighborhood, but are reluctant becausethey fear the criminal element that lurks outside the safety of their home. It has gotten to the point where residents are even scared to sit on their front porch. That has to stop. The Task Force is taking the first step to try and make a change within the city so that people are not afraid anymore.
