Here are some facts:

1) Youngstown USED to have a population of around 175,000 people [when the steel mills were here]

2) Youngstown NOW has a population of around 82,000 people

Bellamy,  I love the historic homes and buildings in Youngstown as much as anyone...I even created  a web site
dedicated solely to them...and I actually OWN a couple of them, as well as a historic old apartment building on
the North Side...BUT...Youngstown cannot afford to keep these eyesores.  Most of the homes being
demolished are more than just eyesores, they are DANGEROUS and can harbor all kinds of criminal activities,
etc, etc.

Instead of just complaining about the demolition - if you dislike the prospect so much, how about coming
up with some alternatives - real, logical, practical ones.  The city must get rid of these falling-down old
homes if it is ever going to re-make itself as a nice, clean, MEDIUM sized city.

In the not too distant future, the city will probably even remove some streets entirely (or at least some
un-populated sections of existing streets) because it makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER to spend any more
of the city's money to maintain a street with no houses on it (or next to none) - this includes paving work,
sewer lines, sidewalks and curbs, electrical lines, telephone poles, gas lines, etc.

  demolition of livable historic homes
was taking place, there would be quite an uproar...of which there is not.
Do you have any specific examples with which to support your claim?

Wrong Bellamy. The less eyesores in the city = less spots druggies can run the drug trade.

No person is actually going to want to live in any of the homes being demolished! They are pieces of crap in the worst area of the city. And yes, the South Side statistically is the worst area of Youngstown, not the East Side like many MAY believe.

$3.5 Million Wasted on Insane Youngstown Demolition...It's Time for a Criminal Investigation of City Hall!

The City of Youngstown is wasting [was $1.55 Million Dollars-now $3.5 Million Dollars] on the demolition of livable historic homes primarily on the South Side of town.

This conduct has to the largest blunder by our city leaders or it's the Biggest Construction Scam in Youngstown's history.

**Did Mt. Calvary Church and Bishop Wagner get any of this money?
