The Cavalcade Continues - Human Chimera

An exhibition of recent paintings by Matt Dibble will be opening at The Studio of 5 Rings from Jan. 11th - Feb 23rd.  This show was curated by Jeffry Chiplis, a nationally recognized sculptor who invented and continues to explore sculptures made from recycled neon.

In Greek mythology, the Chimera is a monstrous creature made of the parts of multiple animals. The human chimeras found in the paintings are often pictured in architectonic environments, a calm and smooth contrast to the misshapen and contorted figures.

Chiplis explained, "The specters that populate this collection are products of the artist's imagination, but also physically human in respects so that we can recognize them. They are shocking to our typical sensibilities, and keep the viewer spellbound within their peculiar nature." Based on a series of pen-and-ink drawings first exhibited two years ago, this collection "also hints at the darker side of  being human" according to Chiplis.
