Your support is still needed for this year's StreetScape beautification projects.
The "Gateways" into Youngstown are also part of this project.

Financial support and volunteers are needed for this year's Streetscape beautification projects.  The planting will occur on Saturday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Federal Plaza.

PROJECT BACKGROUND
Our goal, since 1998, has been to landscape Downtown Youngstown by cleaning, trimming, planting flowers and shrubs, and mulching planting areas.  With the help of businesses and community organizations, Streetscape has raised over $200,000 during the past seven years to purchase landscape materials.  Over 200 volunteers are recruited annually to plant and landscape high traffic areas, which has had a huge impact on the downtown landscape.

THIS YEAR'S GOAL
Once again, community and business support is needed for Streetscape 2005.  This year's funds will go toward purchasing flowers, shrubs, trees, and mulch.  All areas will be cleaned of winter debris and litter prior to the new planting.  Priority areas for this year's event are the following:
  • Flower beds and pots along W. Federal Street and W. Federal Street center median
  • The oval historic monument in the middle of Market Street/Wick Avenue
  • "The Garden Bunker" on the corner of Boardman and Champion Street
  • The stairway that connects Wood Street to Commerce
  • The John Young Memorials at Oak Hill and Spring Common
  • "Gateways" into Youngstown
  • Fall bulb planting
  • Smoky Hollow Memorial maintenance and expansion
  • Hillside between Wood & Commerce Streets maintenance (below Choffin Career & Technical Center)
  • Enhancement of landscape on Walnut Street, Wood Street, and City Hall

HOW TO HELP
[size=3
  • Financial support  Youngstown CityScape is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit organization.  In fact, its Streetscape Committee is a group of concerned individuals who volunteer their time to meet year round to make downtown more beautiful during the spring, summer, and fall.  Funds are needed to purchase shrubs, flowers, trees, and mulch.  Businesses/organizations are encouraged to "adopt" a landscaping area.
  • Volunteers  Help is needed in preparing the planting beds and pots.  Volunteers will plant hundreds of annuals and perennials; they will also mulch and water the area on Streetscape day.
