Why Penmanship Is Important

I attended a fundraising event today at which a 50/50 raffle was held.  When the winning ticket was pulled, no one could read the person's name and what made matters worse, the phone number on the ticket contained numbers that looked like other numbers.
(was a number a 7, 8, 4 or 9?)
Several attempts were made to call the guessed-at phone number.  The phone numbers did not work at all or connected to someone who did not attend the fundraiser.

Poor penmanship cost this potential winner over $700.
