Here in Youngstown we use to have several restaurants that featured piano or organ music while one dined. This city once had real class, not like the pathetic dump it is today.

Don't forget "Show Tunes"...they used to be popular in many of the classier joints.
I used to get a laugh out of the phrase "Lounge Lizards" ....it's not meant to be
derogatory, just a little humor.

Wayne Newton and Tom Jones on the Vegas strip would qualify for this nickname.

I just don't like it when people just simply complain to complain. I agree that downtown isn't for everyone and you know what. A retail establishment may not survive unless it caters to the workers down there.

You will never, ever, see me complaining just to complain.  I have much better things to do with my time.

Glad to hear that my friend. For my part, when I use to go out to dine with family and friends it was to a restaurant in Cleveland that at night features a piano and organist that played "dinner music" and it was quite nice because you could carry on a pleasent converastion with your dinner guests without shouting, or simply sit back and enjoy the music.

I was at the Autism event at the B & O. As most everyone here knows, my son has high-functioning Autism.
I know where Wick Park is, I lived just a block from there for 2 yrs.
Being a single mother, I can't afford the Deyor, nor the Covelli Centre. 
I can't take my son to the festivals downtown, because due to the Autism and sensory issues, he can't deal with large crowds.
I took him to the Toby Mac concert at the Stambaugh just a few weeks ago, and we got about 1/3 of the way through and had to leave.

Most of the restaurants you mention have a bar in them. Imagine that.
The Downtown Circle market is following suit. That's what this thread is about, remember?

PD to be honest, you sound like just another downtown cheerleader.  Don't you think they have enough?

There are plenty of family friendly things to do downtown and restaurants
Oh wow
Robertos is family friendly
Friends roastery is family oriented
Susie's has hot dogs and tater tots. That's family friendly
Deyor is downtown
The circle market is great
There is a liquor store downtown now
Mvr is very family friendly
Wick park is right up the street
Ysu has tons of family activities
Covelli centre is downtown with a wide variety of shows
There will be a grocery store downtown soon enough
There is a hotel going downtown
Avalon pizza is very family friendly
There are events going on downtown every weekend this summer for everyone
B&o just had a night at the races for autism. I went to that. Lots of families
V2 caters to the nightlife and families
Go check out casa Ramirez. Great restaurant
A business won't go downtown if they feel they can't make money


Should I go on or are you not convinced there is something for everyone downtown

Excuse me??  I am 56 yrs old and have "checked out" a LOT of downtowns in my day.  NONE of the downtowns in the cities I have lived in or near, have so many bars in such a small area.
Further, I pay taxes just like you do and expect to be able to go downtown just like everyone else.
How about a more family-friendly environment.  I guess THAT is too much to ask for.

If you had to live downtown, and had to go to Boardman or Austintown to do all your shopping then I say turn every single street level storeroom into a bar, and then tell the downtown residents to go jump in the lake or move. If you want to wallow in a bar, that's your business, but 95% of the people who live in the tree high rises that cater to senior citizens have better things to do with what little income they have each month. OR DON'T THEY MATTER?
I seriously doubt that there are "tons" of bars in Canfield, Niles, Girard, Hubbard, Liberty, Campbell, Struthers, Poland, Austintown or Bever Township

Well, to be fair, this is already an existing establishment - the Downtown Circle convenience store. I guess he's expanding.
But good grief, how much is enough.
