Looks like it's gonna get nasty. The Vindy said below zero wind chills. Although I am a bit surprised that they did not blame any of this weather on Mike Sciortino.

Now there is a real idea for some of our urban farmers ... GROW BEETS FOR SALE TO THE CITY TO PROCESS INTO ROAD DEICER. Turn one of the buildings on Glenwood Ave. into a processing plant, and since the beets will not be used for food there would be no sanitation issue, and the beet remains can be sold for pig swill.

They're using a mixture of salt, beet juice, and some other substance.

Too bad they didn't treat the roads yesterday. There were multiple accidents at going-home time due to the black ice on the roadways.

Salt prices have gone up - that's why someone came up with the idea of using beet juice.

It's biodegradable, harmless to the environment, it works (already been tested )
and best of all it's C-H-E-A-P

Those of you who have driveways and sidewalks to shovel might wanna stock up on rock salt,
some sand and/or chemical de-icer.

I read an article that they are looking at using Beet juice to melt show and nice because salt prices are
up this year.  If a snowstorm comes and there is a run on the stores, prices could go up.

I'm going to the Amish marketplace tomorrow to get my son's deli items, some produce, sweets and meats.
Got a gift card I've yet to spend there.  Then I'm staying IN for the next few days!

Thank goodness that I will not have to worry about the snow and ice that is on its way. I pity the poor souls that will have to brave the snow and ice while sit here in my snug apartment as snug as snug can be with hot chocolate, cookies, and hot bowls of soup to keep little old me warm. I just dearly love little old me.
