SC justices make decision based upon their interpretation of the Constitution and not based on which party it will benefit.  I happen to agree that when people join together in a voluntary association (which is what a corporation is) that they do not lose their free speech rights.  However, excess amounts of money in campaigns can be problematic.  The trick is to find a way to pass legislation that will pass constitutional muster.

Well, It was the 5 most conservative justices on the Supreme Court who voted yes on the decision.....

And the Dems and liberals said "If you can't beat em, join em".....SHOW ME THE CORPORATE MONEY AS WELL!!!!!

I agree with Rick here... the whole nightmare of campaign contributions is a
monster that slithers up and down BOTH sides of the political aisle with equal ease.....

Why do you frame this as "how conservatives hurt America"?  Citizens United is something that both sides have been taking advantage of, and lets remember that even after CU, Obama won reelection and the Democrats retained control of the Senate.  You might go farther if you framed this as an us vs. special interests instead of a left vs. right issue.

"Citizens United did not single-handedly determine the results of the last two elections. The largest target of outside spending in 2012, for example, was Barack Obama, and liberal outside groups as a whole were vastly outspent by their conservative counterparts. Yet Obama won and Democrats gained seats in both chambers of Congress. The biggest groups saw little return on their investment; American Crossroads/Crossroads GPS, 2012's top outside spender, had a success rate of just 6.6 percent in the general election, meaning that over 93 percent of that money was spent attacking candidates who won anyway or supporting ones who did not prevail."    http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2014/01/four-years-after-citizens-united-the-fallout.html

This past week was fourth anniversay of the Citizens United v. FEC decision, when the Supreme Court ruled that corporations are allowed to make unlimited political expenditures.

Wealthy individuals, corporations and Super PACs are now free to spend millions on advertisements for the same candidates and elected officials who will be expected to protect consumers from those corporations once they are elected. In 2012, corporations and Super PACs spent over $1 billion on our elections, much of which was not publicly disclosed.

The Green Party believes that a level playing field for all candidates for public office is vital to a functional American democracy. We call for the overturning of the Citizens United decision. We support amending the Constitution to ensure that only human beings - not corporations - are considered persons with free speech rights.

This is why the Green Party is the only national political party that refuses all contributions from corporations and political action committees. The Green Party is leading by example - leading the way to elections free of corporate influence, undisclosed cash, and democracy sold to the highest bidder.
