Thanks for your response to my questions Dennis.

What many folks don't understand is that WKTL's license is unique and not many were issued by the FCC, and even fewer are still owned by the original licensee.

Because it is non/profit/non commercial it's market is limited, and can't be bought by a for profit broadcaster unless that broadcaster keeps it nonprofit/non commercial, listener funded which is unlikely.

If it is sold, whoever buys it will have major expenses above and beyond the license.

The cost of (a) removing the antennas; and (b) dismantling the tower; then (c) rebuilding it at a new sight can't be done on the cheap. It would require professionals.

Then there's the cost of moving the transmitter. Again, professionals are required using licensed engineers.

Same with the studio equipment.

1. If the license is sold, more than likely the studios, transmitter, and tower would be moved off of the current school property at the high school.
2. Religious organizations are considered non-profit by the FCC....and could broadcast at WKTL'S current frequency of 90.7FM.

Along with answering Towntalk's question- please tell us what the letters WKTL stand for.  I forgot already

Questions:

1. If WKTL is sold, would the new owners have to relocate the studios and tower, or could they lease the present location?

2. Because of the nature of the license, as I understand it, only a non-profit organization could buy the license, so what would happen if a religious group bought the license? Wouldn't that mean that they would not be able to use the present location?

WFMJ was the only local TV station to cover the meeting.  Watch for the story on the 11:00 p.m. news and on the WFMJ Today Show on Wednesday.

A very large crowd attended the meeting today.  The room was filled to capacity.  Some folks had to stand in the hallway.

As of 1:30pm today, an actual vote to put the station up for sale is not on tonight's agenda.
It may be placed on the August agenda.
The public is still invited to the board meeting tonight to express their opinion on whether the
school board should or should not place the license up for sale.

The Struthers School Board is considering selling the radio linense for WKTL (90.7 FM).  The sale would end all local community-based programming.  The next school board meeting is Tuesday, July 17, 5:30 p.m., at the Struthers School Board offices, 99 Euclid Avenue in Struthers.

WKTL is a Mahoning Valley asset.  Let's keep it.
