My concern is with the taller brick and terra cotta covered buildings.

A few decades ago, part of the Wick Building fell to the sidewalk below without an earthquake taking place.  Even slight tremors may dislodge weakened building parts.

The building code already requires some resistance to earthquake loading, and, AFAIK, none of these small earthquakes have come close to testing those limits.

You have to be kidding me.  Do as little research on the Richter scale and then ask that question.

Yesterday evening our area experienced another small earthquake.  With all of our old building structures, a much larger earthquake would cause severe damage and worse.

Should our building codes be changed to require new structures to be built to a higher earthquake standard?
