Nice!  It was a very nice afternoon despite the weather.  Good to see so many young people in Youngstown supporting non violence.

There were hundreds of people in the parade.  It's too bad that it was raining at the time.

NONVIOLENCE PARADE AND RALLY PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 2, 2011

Youngstown City Schools, Sojourn to the Past, Increase the Peace and the Youngstown State University Department of Equal Opportunity and Diversity are planning a first annual nonviolence parade and rally on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at 3 pm. The parade will kick off Nonviolence Week, October 2-8, 2011, and will start on Lincoln Ave. in front of the new YSU business school and proceed downtown.

The parade is open to all nonprofit organizations such as youth groups, athletic teams, church groups, neighborhood watch groups as well as businesses and government officials and politicians. Groups are encouraged to display a banner with their group's name and a nonviolence slogan.  There is no cost for nonprofits and government, a $25 fee for businesses and a $50 for politicians.

Those who would like to participate by walking, driving a car/truck, or creating a float must return the registration application and fees by September 12, 2011.  Registration forms are available by emailing Penny Wells or by phone at  330-788-0545, or by contacting the YSU Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity at YSU  330-941-3370.  Registration forms and fees  and should be returned to Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past 4117 Oak Knoll Dr., Youngstown, Ohio, 44512
