Youngstownshrimp

Communist propaganda moot now, Energy companies evolved into reusing all frack water in subsequent wells.  No more disposal wells, no more streams.

sfc_oliver

Now hold on Gentlemen. Dennis cut and pasted some article that he found somewhere on the internet so it must all be verifiable and true. Shouldn't it?????

Dan, how dare you falsely claim the Greens are former Communists.......

Dan, it doesn't matter how many reports or articles I post on the danger of fracking, you and your
Fascist buddies will continue to contend it's ok to frack.....raping the land and water of those people who
will foolishly allow your kind to drill with a hazardous process.......

This is when Spisak for lack of knowledge will degenerate into namecalling, we all by now know his MO.

Boy did "Youngstownshrimp" ever get this right. You would have at least thought Dennis would have the brains to not name call right off the bat; but he doesn't.
The article he posted is long on hype and short of documentation. Are there violations? Are there spills? Of course, but it sure doesn't warrant shutting down the search for "realistic" energy independence. I'm sure Dennis can cite many examples of spills and violations, but he's claiming permanent damage without providing any evidence.

Reasonable people understand that we must continue drilling for oil and gas. We must also work to develop ways of doing it that are less damaging to the environment. The problem with Dennis is that he's tied in to the Green Party, which could care less about the environment. They are the remnants of the communists who have been trying since the early 1900's to destroy our way of life and Capitalism. When they are rejected they submerge, only to pop back up under the auspices of  new group or movement. Now it's the so called "Green" party. And as I said, they don't care about the environment; at least the core people of the group. Of course there are genuine people who belong, who really care for the environment, but they are just used by the leaders of the party. Whether Dennis is in this category is anyone's guess.

Rise in fracking accidents prompts anti-drilling rallies
By Betsey Piette
Published Dec 4, 2010 11:18 AM
Contrary to gas drilling industry claims that hydraulic fracturing is "accident free," Texas-based XTO Energy has racked up 31 violations at 20 wells drilled in the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania in 2010.

XTO's latest accident involved a leak of up to 13,000 gallons of chemically contaminated drilling wastewater that polluted a stream and a spring in north-central Pennsylvania's Lycoming County, says the state's Department of Environmental Protection. The leak was caused by a valve which was left open.

In June, Exxon paid $30 billion to merge with XTO Energy, making Exxon/XTO the largest natural gas producer in the U.S.

Hydraulic fracturing involves blasting millions of gallons of water, sand and chemicals into wells to break apart shale and release natural gas. The wastewater that returns to the surface is a toxic, sometimes radioactive, sludge containing sulfates, benzene, chloride, toluene and other chemicals used in the fracking process.

Accidents like the one in Lycoming County occur at the rate of nearly one a day at wells across the Marcellus Shale, which spans the states of Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and Ohio.

A Scripps Howard News Service investigation of the drilling industry over the last decade found 1,972 violations for pollution and contamination in Ohio.

Pennsylvania officials have issued 8,309 industry-related violations since 2007. The Pennsylvania Land Trust Association found 1,056 serious environmental violations tied to drilling in the shale between the start of 2008 and Aug. 20 of this year. Gas companies improperly sealed their wells 50 times, potentially causing gas to migrate into groundwater.

"There's so many more violations that we're trying to keep on top of," said Jamie Legenos, spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. (Scripps News, Nov. 18). One problem the investigation notes is the lack of proper paperwork or follow-up due to understaffed oversight agencies.

The lack of federal and state regulations contributes to this problem, with drilling companies frequently ignoring local laws intended to limit the environmental impact. In the last three years, the natural gas industry has tripled state campaign contributions to guarantee election of pro-drilling candidates like Pennsylvania's governor-elect, Tom Corbett.

This has prompted anti-drilling activists to sound the alarm and increase their mobilizing activities against fracking.

Gas Truth of Central Pennsylvania is calling for an inauguration day rally against "Toxic Tom" on Jan. 18 in Harrisburg, the state capital. Rally demands include a moratorium on further drilling in the state; regular inspections of existing wells; disclosure of the chemicals used in fracking; and no "forced pooling" (allowing gas companies to drill when properties border those with existing wells even if landowners refuse to sign leases).

A "warm-up" rally is planned for Dec. 6 in Wellsboro, Pa., where former Pennsylvania governor and Homeland Security chief, Tom Ridge, is "shilling for drilling" at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast. Ridge, now a drilling industry consultant, is suspected of being behind recent spying on anti-drilling activists by the Institute of Terrorism Research and Response under a no-bid contract with the Pennsylvania Homeland Security.

Wellsboro, in Tioga County, was also the site of a 35-mile spill of fracking fluids along a highway in October.

Under capitalism, the drive for profits overtakes everything, including protection of the environment. It is important that both upcoming rallies will target corporate greed as the factor behind the public policies that are affecting the water, land and air in the state.

Give us some numbers Dennis. You know like how many wells and how many dead farms.... And please link it.

Find a practice of drilling that is not as dangerous as fracking as I would be in favor of it.....

But fracking leaves dead farms, dead land, and dead water to the people around a bad drill......

people who are never fully conpensated for the destruction.......

and land that is left for dead by the drilling companies who destroyed it.....

Give us some numbers Dennis. You know, like how many wells and how many dead farms.... And please link it.

The Marcellus Shale gas deposit is estimated to contain 262 trillion cubic feet of gas. One trillion cubic feet can heat 15 million homes for a year, or generate 100 billion kilowatt hours of electricity. (Popular Mechanics) There are five known deposits of gas in America totaling 2,552 trillion cubic feet. Is Dennis suggesting that our country would be better off if did not drill for this gas?

are you going to attend the movie, "split estate" at the liberty high school.

What is 'fracking'?:

Hydraulic fracturing, or 'fracking', is a process used by oil and gas companies of extracting natural gas by drilling into the earth and breaking up rock formations by injecting tens of thousands of gallons of hazardous and proprietary chemicals into the ground.

Gov. Kasich has said hydraulic fracking would be a 'godsend' for Ohio. He could not be farther from the truth. In reality, fracking will benefit out of state workers and corporations, create boom and bust local economies, jeopardize the health of Ohioans, and disturb natural environments.

Some Facts About Fracking:

Drillers are exempt from EPA guidelines like the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act
Drilling releases Nitrogen Oxide and Volatile Organic Compounds, resulting in destructive surface smog
Researchers have found almost 600 different chemicals in fracking fluid, including benzene, a known carcinogen
Over 80,000 pounds of chemicals are injected into the earth's crust to frack each well. Wells can be fracked over a dozen times during the production cycle.
Up to 80% of the Fracking Fluid remains in the ground and is not biodegradable
Fracking may also be linked to hundreds of recent earthquakes in Arkansas
The current horizontal fracking boom only began in 2005. Despite industry claims of a long track record, only 3 wells in Ohio are horizontally fracked.
The United States EPA is currently doing a comprehensive fracking study that will have data in 2012 and a complete report in 2014
What You Can Do:

Tell Gov. Kasich Don't Frack Up Ohio! Suspend all fracking in Ohio until the proper studies are done and safety regulations are in place!

Tell Gov. Kasich that contaminating water supplies with toxic chemicals, disturbing natural environments, and releasing hazardous air emissions into communities is not okay.

A boom and bust economy that will benefit out of state workers and corporations is not worth risking our safe drinking water, health and public safety, or degradation of our natural environments.

Ohio lacks the strong and necessary regulations and to protect Ohioans and our natural environment. Once again, John Kasich is putting the profits of his rich CEO buddies ahead of the health and safety of everyday Ohioans.
