Jazz Singer To Dazzle Youngstown Playhouse Audience - May 15

April 27, 2011 Youngstown, Ohio -- – The Youngstown Playhouse welcomes one of Northeast Ohio 's premier jazz singers for a special benefit concert May 15th at 7:30pm. The Barbara Knight Quintet will present "A Little Knight Music" during the Sunday evening show. Proceeds will benefit the Youngstown Playhouse.

Knight will unite her voice with the sounds of a live jazz quintet under the leadership of YSU professor Kent Engelhardt on sax. Three YSU students will also perform. For years, Knight has dazzled audiences with her voice, and she is recognized by jazz bands and musicians as a truly gifted singer with dynamic stage presence. She even has two CDs to her credit.

"We are so excited to welcome such a successful and talented singer to the Youngstown Playhouse. The audience will not be disappointed!" said Executive Director Mary Ruth Lynn.

Since 1993, Knight has been the female vocalist with the acclaimed Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. She has also performed all over the Tri-State region, working with national big bands such as the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and The Famous Jazz Orchestra. In 2003, Barbara made her Severence Hall debut as the guest vocalist with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra for their New Year's Eve Spectacular. In 2006, Barbara formed the Barbara Knight Quintet and a year later the group recorded the CD Angel Eyes.
