Turned out this project was the Valourec new steel plant, the beginning of Youngstown on its way to a global energy City.

Its interesting but at a number of news web sites that I went to were ads opposing Issue 6, and none were local and one was not even in this country.

Being that Rivers is Pro Issue 6, I'm sure that he will mention it next week on his show.

I don't recall the name of the guest that Rivers interviewed, but if you go to Radio570's web site, Rivers podcasts his shows, but he was the guy that is the spokesman for Issue 6.

Obviously I do not buy into all the things environmentalists are preaching, but I am pragmatic enough to cheer for any new industry that brings jobs here, for that is the only acceptable bottom line in the kind of economic environment we currently have.

How can anyone argue  with renewable energy whether they believe in global warming or not.  It is getting too expensive to heat our homes.

As far as the casino goes...  issue 6 proposes  a change in the constitution?  It sends up a red flag just  for the fact that it would change the constitution.  The constitution  speaks about lotteries and charitable bingo... outlawing the lotteries. Is that why it needs to be an amendment? Couldn't the casino issue be handled another way?  And why does it cover only one casino?

I think the part about the announcement that the next casino would be coming here   is probably a sales pitch for the vote.  The issue  only allows for one casino.

I can't find anything in any news release  saying  Lyle Berman announced  bringing a casino to Youngstown.  I searched google news as well. Who specifically said this was announced and did they give details?

History has shown that casinos have not brought real economic development to those cities where theywere built such as in Atlantic City.

Even in the New York State case, can anyone show where their casinos brought in jobs outside the industry such as manufacturing jobs?

Simply servicing the industry would not bring in the kind of jobs this valley needs once the casino was built.

As to the "promise" that Mahoning and Trumbull counties will financially benefit from a casino, they said the same thing about the Ohio Lottery. Our schools would reap the harvest, and that just has not happened in reality.

Casino's work in some areas. They work in Niagra because it is a tourist location. They work in Mountaineer because it's in a small town in the middle of nowwhere on the river. In econmically depressed regions like Youngstown with housing markets on life support (and now in the midst of one of the work finicial/foreclosure crisises in American history), casinos create only expediate the problem.

The ignorace of simply voting for Issue 6 because it would bring a casio to Youngstown which would bring jobs or possibly create more traffic is to ingnore all the data gathered on this subject. This is isn't a new idea by any means, especially in other cities much like Youngstown (ex. Gary, IN). There is research out there on this and this is why Issue 6 is not being endorsed by most of the major news papers (to include The Vindicator who outright says "vote no") as well as the state law enforcement organizations who understand what kind of problem this can create. What's worse is that, under Issue 6, the money goes to out of town management - not to state funded programs, etc. Again, I'm not necessary against gambling in Ohio - I'm again Issue 6 because we can do better.

Regarding wind turbine: This is also what I've heard but I have to keep relatively quiet on the matter for now.

I was interviewed earlier this week regarding our website by a YSU student for YO magazine. It was about this website, our members and about the state of Youngstown in general. 

I hope I did right by you all and that she includes it all.

In the interview I said basically that I agree with Dennis Spisak about bringing green industry to the Valley. I agree with Phil -  we need to go green.

If it is wind turbine manufacturing ... that is wonderful.

I'm not sure how I feel about Casinos... I know several people that travel out of state a couple of times a year to gamble. They have disposable incomes and  often play bingo locally. These are older established folks though and I'd hate to see young people get hooked on gambling.

This is a horrible idea! Youngstown in the past few years has just started to get going towards where it needs to be, and a casino is going to start dragging it back to where it came from. There's a reason they want to put it in Youngstown, because they figure the people in this area (P-Burg to C-Land) are the type to feel down enough on their luck to go and waste the money that they have on gambling. Half of the people in Youngstown can't afford to keep their houses off the code violation list, but those same people will find money to gamble if there is a casino right in town.

VOTE NO ON SIX!!! DON'T LET THEM PREY ON OUR STATE, AND OUR TOWN!!!
