I have tried in vain to reach mark memmer the 7th ward rep for the southside and he has not returned any phone calls dealing with this problem. I did call paul peyko the 6th ward rep for the southside and he will meet with both 6 and 7 wards to discuss possibles solutions.

GOOD!

I WOULD HATE TO SEE SOUTH AVE AND  MIDLOTHIAN END UP LIKE MARKET ST AND MIDLOTHIAN - THEY NEED TO ARM THEMSELVES TOO -

This information was obtained yesterday.  Some residents in the area of South Avenue and East Midlothian ARE arming themselves.  The police will not be the only ones protecting this neighborhood.

Last night a south side store owner was shot five times at his Glenwood Avenue business.

INNOCENT PEOPLE ARE ALREADY GETTING SHOT! IT IS TIME THE GOOD PEOPLE OF Y-TOWN UNITE,  PROTECT THEMSELVES AND REMOVE THE SCUM. THE POLICE CAN'T BE EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME.

THE CITY CAN SET THE CLASSES UP - MAKING SURE THAT THEY COVER ALL NECESARY TRAINING - WHAT TO DO IN THIS SCENARIO, HOW TO HANDLE A FIREARM  ECT. - THE TEACHERS CAN DO IT AT A REDUCED RATE. THEY WOULD MAKE OUT IN THE VOLUME OF CLIENTS AND MAYBE AS A TAX WRITE OFF IF HANDLED PROPERLY.

SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!

If the city is training these civilians to be like police officers, then the city should
assume the liability if one of these "highly trained" non-police officers shoot an
innocent person by mistake.

Training civilians on how to shoot a weapon does not train them on how to
actually deal with an armed robbery in progress - I still think this leaves the
door open for someone to get hurt that would not have been otherwise.

I'm not knocking anyone else's opinion, just offering mine - for what it's
worth.  The police (if there were more of them) would be a much better
deterrent to crime in Youngstown.

:)

THAT IS WHY THE CITY MAKES SURE THEY ARE TRAINED IN HANDLING WEAPONS (CLASSES) SO NO INNOCENTS GET HURT  - THEY WILL HIT THEIR TARGET - SAME AS IF THEY WERE  A POLICE MAN - THE TRAINED MERCHANTS CAN BE HONORARY DEPUTIES  ;D

AllanY2525

Now that the Convocation Center is open and creating new revenues for the
city, they need to hire more police officers.

Why should they pay overtime for Convocation Center security when they
could just pay "straight time" if they had enough officers on the force to
provide adequate security.  The city is wasting money in this regard.

With regard to citizens packing guns - this could turn out to be a disaster.
What happens when a store owner or property owner tries to shoot
some robbers and ends up hitting an innocent bystander?

Vigilantes are not always all that they are cracked up to be.

MOLOCH

THE GUN LAW PASSED - YOUNGSTOWN SHOULD SET UP SPECIAL GUN LESSONS FOR BUSINESS OWNERS OR MANAGERS (WHOMEVER IS AT THE BUSINESS) THEN WHEN THE SCUM COMES IN TO ROB THEM THEY CAN REMOVE THEM FROM SOCIETY PERMANENTLY! INSTEAD OF  THE SLAP ON THE WRIST THEY GET NOW CAUSE THE JAILS ARE FULL! MAKE SURE TO PASS A LAW THAT THE SURVIVORS AND FAMILY MEMBERS OF THOSE CRIMINALS KILLED CAN NOT SUE CAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE THE NERVE TO DO THAT. MAYBE THE FACT THEY COULD BE KILLED WOULD DETER SOME OF THE SCUM FROM TRYING TO ROB PEOPLE - THE ONES WHO STILL TRY - CAN DIE  ;D

Had enough

Thugs have been allowed to take over the south side!

Federal agents should have been called in long ago.
The mayor said that he doesn't mind if overtime is paid to YPD for the convocation center security - what about security on the south side?

Crime has been rampant on the south side for months with little mention in the Vindicator (who irresponsibly advertises the victim's name and addresse but not the alleged criminal's name and address) or local TV stations.  Too afraid that businesses won't get any customers.  Too bad that many businesses are pulling up stakes and leaving Ytown because they can't pay the increases for insurance that resulted when the scumbuckets destroyed their property and stole vehicles, tools, and cash.

South siders are fed up with what's been happening.  It's time to demand action from city officials and change laws to protect the citizens not the criminals- we deserve better.

Today's newspaper carries an account of a gun battle that broke out as a Market Street business was being robbed for the second time in a month by three gunmen.

Crime on the south side is out of control.   Some innocent bystander is going to be killed in one of these holdups.
