The Second Bill of Rights was a proposal made by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt during his State of the Union Address on January 11, 1944 to suggest that the nation had come to recognize, and should now implement, a second bill of rights. Roosevelt did not argue for any change to the United States Constitution; he argued that the second bill of rights was to be implemented politically, not by federal judges. Roosevelt's stated justification was that the "political rights" guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights had "proved inadequate to assure us equality in the pursuit of happiness." Roosevelt's remedy was to create an "economic bill of rights" which would guarantee:

A job with a living wage
Freedom from unfair competition and monopolies
A home
Medical care
Education
Recreation
Roosevelt stated that having these rights would guarantee American security, and that America's place in the world depended upon how far these and similar rights had been carried into practice.

Dennis,
Unfortunately, you do not understand what Capitalism is. Capitalism is "freedom". You may not like it, it may be unforgiving and sometimes harsh, but it is "freedom". Pure Capitalism is an absence of economic laws, and no system has brought more prosperity to a country. You would argue that no system has created more economic disparity in a country. Though you would be right as well, it is safe to say that the poor in a capitalist country live better than the affluent in countries with controlled economies.

The problem with your "second Bill of Rights" is they impose a duty on someone. Nothing is a right if someone has to be forced to provide it to you. I hope you will notice that the "original" Bill of Rights are not an imposition on anyone. It's all about "Freedom" Dennis. A word too seldom used by the left.

Please, Micheal Moore? We are so low as to refer to anything Micheal Moore does as truth?  I cannot believe this, even from Dennis. The man has more half truths than you do Dennis. and if anything he presents upsets someone then they need to hear the rest of the story. Glad to know you are out spending some money though. Too bad it went into Mr Moores greedy little pocket.

Dennis, lets assume that capitolism whether small or large is evil to the core, and we must include all businesses whether the mom and pop store down the street to the huge international corporation since they all are "capitolists" in the classical definition, what would you replace them with if it was in your power to do so?

My wife was a life-long conservative until last night....when she left the theatre

Michigan's Governor discovers that lower taxes encourages businesses, "Green" and otherwise. She is also beginning to suspect that reducing regulations may help as well.

dan would you use city monies to install solar energy panels if you know it will save you money in long run? ;)

Dan Moadus

Cities can now help homeowners buy solar panels.............With your money.

Don't worry Dennis. No matter how much campaigning I do, I will always find time to correct miss-information put out by the "Green" party.
