Personally, I blame BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES for letting things get
into the mess that they have thus far...

The HMO's and other insurance companies lobbied congress for years to get
them to allow the HMO's, under the guise [sp?] that they would help to lower
healthcare costs.

In fact, all the HMO's have done is to cut THEIR costs by limiting which
treatments they will pay for, forcing policy holders (in many but not all
cases..)  to see a limited set of doctors, etc.

When you take your car into the shop for repairs, you can get an estimate
of what it will cost to fix it.

When was the last time you were able to ask a hospital to give an estimate of
what your bill might be after getting a minor surgery (ie: routine stuff), elective
surgery, etc.

The medical billing system needs a major overhaul.  If people had some kind of
general estimate of what routine medical services (ie: NON-emergency situations)
were going to cost them - IN ADVANCE - then maybe they could do some
"comparison shopping" and find the doctor(s) and hospitals that could do the
procedure(s) at the most affordable price.

Competition is one of the cornerstones of a Capitalist society - and it encourages
better prices when businesses (in this case Doctors and Hospitals) have to
compete for consumers' dollars.

Anyways, that's just my $0.02....

towntalk i agree with you on the ambulance chasing lawyers when it comes to unsolicited letters for suing on unfortunate accident. the acl will not be happy until everyone is mad at each other due lawsuits against each other. the doctor that saved my life when i had a blotclot left the state of OHIO due to his malpractice insurance skyrocketed to the a point he could not practice medicine without raising his rates on his patients in his practice that was unaffordable to all parties involved. Dr. colla moved to a Minnesota hospital as employee thus avoiding his own paying medical malpractice insurance. Ohio has lost a brilliant doctor in the vein medical practice.

1. The last time I went to a Doctor was 20 years ago.

2. The last time I visited an Emergency was 4 years ago after an automobile accident.

3. As a Senior I am on Medicare. Government provided health care.

4. I DO NOT begrudge ANYONE health care that IS AFFORDABLE, and if they are poor, then it is the responsability of society to come to their aid. NO ONE SHOULD BE SHUT OUT.

Since being on Medicare, I've used my Medicare card 1 time. (The accident.)

I also do agree that our health care system is broken, and I blame Ambulance Chasing lawyers for much of the problem.

After the accident (I was a passanger) I got half a dozen letters from lawyers wanting me to sue the driver ... the insurance company and the hospital. My only problem was a bruised chest ... no complications.  I tossed all the letters and told the insurance company I had absolutely no intention of filing a clame for problems that did not exist.

like i have said in the past why is anyone afraid to have healthcare for the unissured? towntalk what would you do if you need medical assistance that comes with a hefty finance hardship and  you do not have any kinds of financial means to pay for this roadblock in your health?

Rick Rowlands

According to Dennis, everything only has ONE side. There is to be NO tolerance for contrary viewpoints, and NO tolerance for other ideas.

Conservatives opposed great reforms like Social Security and Medicare by screaming socialism. They were wrong then, and they're wrong now.

Guaranteed affordable health insurance would not make doctors and other health care professionals work for the government. The progressive plan is about making sure you have good health insurance you can afford and the ability to go to the doctors you want.

The site I linked to is a liberal site ... the views expressed by that site are theirs, not mine.

It's only fair that ALL sides of the issue are voiced and not just yours, or don't you believe that sides other than yours be expressed?

I seriously doubt that at this point in time Congress will scrap the current health care bills under consideration in the House and Senate in order to draft a new bill that would get your blessings.

Remember that Congress is talking about a final vote in September.

Once the final product is in place, then perhaps they might revisit the issue and modify it, but again, I doubt it.

I will agree with you on one point, all sides of the issue are using scare tactics to the point that it's difficult to seperate fact from fiction.
