I get that now with a faceless HMO and Health Insurance CEO or person who decided that shots recommended by my son's autism doctor would not be covered by my insurance....so my son could not receive the daily shots because they ran 200 bucks a day....

And we were in the middle of a Great Depression far worse than we are experiencing now, and don't forget World War II. Remember also that they didn't have the safeguards that were put in place by Roosevelt.

When is the last time you saw men on street corners selling apples?

Thank God I was born toward the end of that era (1939), but thanks to some wonderful teachers I learned about that time, as well as learning about it from family members who went through it.

Wage and price controls helped put food on our table and cloths on our backs.

By the way when you bought something, you could rest assured that it was made in America, even in the 5&10 Cents stores.

Phasing in many of your ideas over time is not what I personally object to because that's called progress. but you seem to think that [1] the government must drop everything else and grab their ankles for you, [2] and that socialism is the wave of the future ... yes, socialism because when government gives you all the things you want "free", they also control you, and with socialism comes apathy, and the loss of incentive and innovation.

Stop and think about your own situation. Do you really want some bureaucrat you don't even know dictating to you about what your family can and can not have by way of medical treatment? When you reach my age, do you want some bureaucrat telling you that medical treatment for you is out of the question because you are old and no longer productive?

Do you want some bureaucrat with no medical experience deciding what's best for your son?

As a Democrat, you do know FDR did set wage and price controls in the 1930's and 1940's....

As a life long DEMOCRAT I hope you don't include me.

I'm sure that Sarge could point out the amount of money you've gotten at taxpayers expense, BUT THAT'S NOT THE ISSUE HERE.

The issue is where this country is going to get all the money to pay for your wish list.

Can't you understand this country is neck deep in debt, and we can't just keep printing more money. The states are equally in debt.

Tax the wealthy and "Big Business"? And who do you think that they are going to pass those new taxes onto?

I'm suprised that you don't advocate wage and price controls.

We do not need a "New Deal" What we need is Fiscal Conservatives in Washington.

We certainly do not need 50% taxes on everything.

And please when you attack my retirement you truly are showing your stupidity and non support of our veterans. I earned every dime and have given up more than you can dream of. I suggest you forget those attacks.

Conservatives have no new deal.....only help the rich and disinfranchise the poor, working, and middle class.....

If you conservatives have one......let's see it......

And where is all the money going to come from?

Oh, from all the green jobs that will suddenly appear.

The country is TRILLIONS of dollars in debt, and the Fed announced that many of the bonds it issues will be paying 0% interest. Not to worry though, the Green Party will solve all our economic woes within the first 100 days of coming to power.

And what will their answer be regarding the personal income tax we all have to pay?

Free college education for the masses. Does that mean private as well as public colleges and universities? And where will the money to pay the teachers come from? Taxes ... and if that's the case, then it's not "free" since we'll all be paying taxes.

We know your views on taxing businesses and the wealthy, but what about the rest of us?

End ALL deductions without exception.

Tax Social Security and SSI income?

Tax welfare?

Tax all charities such as MDA, Red Cross, American Cancer Society?

Tax food, clothing, shelter?

Then come up with a conservative new deal that will aid the poor, working, and middle classes while you retire on my tax dollars....

sfc_oliver

I think you need to totally rethink your new deal.

The Green New Deal:

Institute a single-payer "Medicare for all" healthcare system
Enact a revenue-neutral carbon tax, with all revenues returned to taxpayers as payroll tax cuts
Institute free public higher education
Enact a federal living wage, indexed to inflation, and repeal the anti-union Taft-Hartley Act
Re-regulate the financial sector and enact a Tobin tax of 0.25% on all cross-border financial transactions

Cut military spending by at least 50% and invest the dividend into public works programs to:
give America a world-class public transportation system
retrofit 10 million homes with energy-conserving insulation
power America with 50% renewable energy by 2020, 100% by 2030

The Green New Deal would set Greens apart as a clear alternative to politics-as-usual; no other national party is calling for this legislation.

The policies would form not a comprehensive platform, but rather a set of economics-related "big ideas" that all Green congressional candidates could sign on to.

The Green New Deal would show voters that Greens are serious about fixing the economy and putting it on a sustainable footing. It would also provide a taste of the forward-thinking Green platform, thereby increasing interest in the party.
