I totally agree that that design would look ridiculous in a historic neighborhood near historic homes and buildings.

But, it would be nice if they could find a location nearby where it wouldn't look so out of place.

Would you really want this:

...next to Powers Auditorium?  I wouldn't.

I'm not on the design review committee.  But I know someone who is, and I was able to glance at their copy of the submitted design.  It looked to me like CVS just dusted off one of their standard designs.  At least it wasn't one of their cheapest.  But, it would be out of place at that location.
