'Appeals' continue after Nasser Hamad's death - Why?

The appeals go on in the murder conviction of killer Nasser Hamad, even though Hamad died in prison six months ago. The question is why?   21 News talked to a defense attorney and a prosecutor about who benefits from the dead man's appeals. It was in November of 2017 when Nasser Hamad of Howland was sentenced to 36 years to life in prison for murdering two young men and injuring three others in a shooting at his home.
