It has been reported on the radio news this morning that Phil Kidd is the new events coordinator for downtown Youngstown.   In addition to his many accomplishments, Phil is the creator of the Defend Youngstown movement.

I was reminded yesterday that applications should be taken for the position if the city wants the best possible candidate to manage downtown events.  Also, there should be an advisory board to offer suggestions and to help with the events.

I've heard this rumor twice last night.  City council will replace the current downtown events coordinator after the new council is seated in January.  The new coordinator will be a young man from Youngstown.

Has anyone approached Brooke or Casey about this?

Folks should contact their council rep about this, as I believe the position answers to the city board.

SHE WOULD MAKE A VERY VERY VERY GREAT CHOICE ... MEDIA SAVVT, HAS A WEALTH OF CONTACTS AND WAS INVOLVED IN PUTTING TOGETHER SEVERAL PARADES ... OTHER EVENTS ... AND WOULD RELATE BETTER WITH YOUNGER ADULTS.

Casey Malone is another name mentioned for this position.

Brooke, the organizer and emcee for The Stage at the Oakland, would be a good candidate for this job.

The events coordinator planner should be someone who makes the downtown events attractive to young adults and has a working knowledge of our theater venues.

This isn't an events calendar position.  The person must be able to design downtown events to attract people to the center city and to the businesses.  The trick will be to promote our existing entertainment venues and our bars and restaurants.

While the Italian Fest was well attended, most of the money spent on food probably went to the outside vendors who were allowed to bring mobile food units to the downtown.  Restaurants a block away did not do well those days.

Many of this year's events were not promoted properly.  The downtown needs someone who has a proven record of arranging great events and getting the community to attend in large numbers.  We should make a list of individuals who might be good in this events coordinator position.  Maybe the mayor and council would be willing to take advice from the people for a change.
