I am new to this forum and have been reading some of the memories.  Someone named the "five and ten cent" stores that were once in downtown Youngstown, but could not think of one -- the one he/she left out was Grants on the corner of W. Federal and Hazel (Southwest corner) I left Youngstown in the early sixties and visited only occasionally through the early ninties.  I grew up on the South Side in the fourties and fifties.
I am trying to locate a photograph of the old Garfield School on the corner of Erie and E. Delason(sp) Aves. Can anyone help me out? ???
Also what was the name of the nut house downtown somewhere near the square?  I THINK that was the name  -- "The Nut House"  I know we used to wait for the Market St. bus across the street from it and you could smell the nuts roasting when the wind was right.
I am glad to see that someone is interested in saving the old theaters -- such beautiful memories of just walking into the Palace -- I can't remember the films, but I will never forget that interior!
I would love to see some more memories of "my era"............
