West Side Resident To Fight School Zone Speeding Ticket

The flashing lights let motorists know that school is in session.  If some schools have the yellow flashing lights, all the schools should have the flashing lights.

Volney still has the signs saying "School Zone Speed Limit 20 MPH".  It is just common sense to slow down in a school zone.


It will take that driver more time to fight the ticket than the time lost by slowing down. 


What speed were they doing in the school zone?  People frequently fly by Volney doing 40-45mph during school hours, which is above the limit on any stretch of Schenley.

I just drove through two of the school zones on the west side.

Kirkmere School
Has a school zone flashing yellow light on Kirk Road as you head east
Light going west was not flashing

Volney School
No flashing light on S. Schenley heading north
No flashing light on S. Schenley heading south

How about slowing down in a school zone any time school is in session?  The no right turn on red between 8 am and 4 pm at the traffic lights would be a good indicator of when you need to watch your speed in school zones.   How many seconds does one actually lose by slowing down through school zones?


Did the resident get caught with a traffic camera?  YPD did say that school zones would be one of the places they would be using the cameras to reduce speeding.

A west side resident was recently caught in the South Schenley school zone trap.  What is the school zone trap?  It is the area of South Schenley between Mahoning Avenue to the north and Canfield Road to the south.  Four schools are located along this stretch of Schenley and each school has different traffic signs making it unclear when the 20 mile per hour speed limit is observed.  The resident is contesting the ticket that was issued to her.
