There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel with the news that a company is looking to make an $81.5 million dollar investment in Youngstown with more good paying jobs with a future.

Rick Rowlands

This is iwasthere's post in pig latin.  Makes about as much sense:

Ang sabi niya daw, mag attend mo yung blk watch nila parang ma kita mo ang bagoong Mayor natin. Pweding mag tanong kung anong gagawain nila tungkol sa income tax nang ciudad.

Rick Rowlands

What was that in english?  I can't read iwasthere code talk.

They CRY about energy jobs and receive millions from Valouric, and then they cry that it is not permanent from Valouric.
Billy, BG and the community organizers rally to brainwash the low information people of Youngstown to ban fracking.  Keep it up losers as you spiral into insolvency.
I for one know personally a YSU employee who paid income taxes to Youngstown for 18years, and that person is moving OUT.

Towntalk

Oh, and by the way my friend, aren't you one of those who complain about city income taxes being "too high" keeping businesses from locating inside the city? You advocate lowering city income taxes don't you?
When you go out to dine, do you tip the watress who waits on you and cleans up after you? Those tips count as income and she pays city tax on that as well as her wage which is minimum wage at best.

Why not place an income tax on pensions and social security income as well as SSI where the handicapped folks are concerned at the same rate as working individuals? It's all income isn't it?
Get this straight ... OLD PEOPLE PAY TAXES ... THOSE WHO ARE PROPERTY OWNERS PAY TAXES THAT SUPPORT OUR SCHOOLS SO THAT YOUR BRATS CAN GET AN EDUCATION. IF THEY HAVE INCOME FROM INVESTMENTS THEY PAY INCOME TAX ... FEDERAL ... STATE AND CITY.
DON'T COME OFF IMPLYING THAT JUST BECAUSE A PERSON IS OVER 65 THAT THEY DON'T PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE OF TAXES.
IT'S ONLY THOSE ON WELFARE THAT DON'T PAY TAXES.

Youngstown has an aging population that no longer pay direct income tax yet they still use city services.  Perhaps we should find a way for these seniors to pay something to the city.

Maybe they should pay an annual assessment of $500 per senior household or pay 1% of adjusted gross income.
Pay whichever one is lower.

What I do not understand is why there are those who want to see the city income tax go away, yet at the very same time they want increases in services that the city is mandated to supply.
Youngstown has an aging population, and more than it's share of poverty level people that have few opportunities to pull themselves out of poverty with productive jobs, yet when we do have the opportunity to bring in meaningful jobs which have security, there are those who want to  chase them away. This makes absolutely no sense.
The whole future of Youngstown rests with bringing in good paying jobs that will not only lift people out of poverty but will offer them hope for their future, and the future of their children and grandchildren, and to date, those who want to see these new jobs come here have offored no alternative at all. Further, they do not have the wherewithall to produce any alternative jobs opportunities. Name just one new company that has come to Youngstown offering good paying skilled jobs that was brought here by BG or and of BG's supporters. There simply are none.
They condemn corporations as being inherantly evil, but none of them has invested a single penny into a startup company they could live with ... a company that could grow and expand opportunities for those in need of jobs.
What is so ironic is the fact that many of these folks themselves are barely getting by at part time jobs that only pay minimum wages.
Why then should we agree with anything they have to say about anything?

iwasthere

this should not come to ytown leaders as a surprise. they were warned abt this predection two yrs ago.

Towntalk

Since city income tax comes out of the pockets of WORKING Youngstowners and not sales tax, that means that we are going to have to double down on getting good paying jobs here, and that means not allowing certain people to stand in our way. Ron; Rick and I have stressed the need for good paying jobs with a furture, but there are those who would rather take minimum wage jobs with no future, and want the same for the rest of us, but as Ron has said, we are no longer going to allow the have not's run the show.
I won't name names but BG and BM know who they are.

jay

The city's 2013 income tax collections fell short of predictions.

This is just another reason why we should patronize Youngstown first.
