My jaw hit the desk when I saw the mega office campus Chesapeake energy is developing in Canton.  And yes, V&M Star is also a whopper of an investment.  Youngstown still can garner world class enegy headquarters, but the occupyer, Beirsdorfer, defend mindset has to go.  Notice how these types fester around decaying cities, it is an easy move for power.
This warped mindset recruits in their ranks, the dregs and outcast of society and many have filled the void of depopulation.  But you are right, it is changing rapidly, because those who have the gold makes the rules and energy companies fortunately do not make corrupt rules.

They're just in the minority, and that minority is growing smaller and smaller by the day.

One or two setbacks do not a trend make ... look at the types of new companies that have come to town ... look at V&M Star Steel ... look at how the voters stopped FrackFree in its tracks at the primaries ... look at the work at YSU and how it is partnering with new companies ... look at how YSU holds job fairs that include shale production.

What is taking place in New Springfield bode well for the city, and the FrackFree crowd can't stop it.

It's impossable to perminantly stop progress.

What I'd like to see is for the companies using Youngstown as their headquarters ... purchase the PNC building and set up shop there. A move such as this would be a major win for the city and would make other businesses to re-consider locating downtown.

Royalties from every inch of Utica ground will be reinvested into the community sparking the boom of Youngstown and Mahoning county.

The processing of the shale oil into gas will be done in Columbiana County and New Springfield here in Mahoning County, while pipe for the pipelines is made here in Youngstown.

What other phases of shale oil production and processing will come our way?

ODNR said it expects the Utica shale well production to exceed the yearly output of all of the state's 51,000 existing conventional wells by 2015.
"The production from these initial Utica wells make a compelling statement about the staggering amount of oil and gas resources Ohio's shale appears to contain," ODNR Director James Zehringer said in a statement. "As more data is collected and analyzed, ODNR will continue to report it and continue its careful regulation of this rapidly growing and economically vital industry."
When comparing horizontal wells to conventional wells, the 2012 Utica shale production averages indicate:
One Utica well produced as much oil as 312 conventional wells and another produced as much gas as 448 conventional wells, ODNR said.
Utica wells accounted for 12 percent of oil and 16 percent of gas production in 2012 statewide.
