Seems people in Boston didn't have a problem when the government (police, FBI, etc.) found the bombing suspects within a week.

There are numerous types of non profit organizations. A 501 (c) 3 is prohibited from endorsing candidates or parties but may support or oppose issues, within limits.  A 501 (c) 4 organization does not have the same limitations.

If these political action committees would make it their goal to directly help those in need instead of raising money to lobby for laws or candidates, they would actually start making a difference.  Why is it that every solution now has to involve government?  Can we not get together to tackle a problem ourselves anymore?
Thank you for the very short non profit organizations information.
I am very sorry to say I can not understand you last statement and two questions.  The more I read those last few lines the more confused I get and the funnier they appear.  Perhaps our definition of words and phrases are different.  It seems to me you want people to give their money to charity rather than to politicians who may legislate money to those who need it.  I would bet that this would exclude people who already have money and wish to give it to politicians who may legislate in favor of them making more money  ;D  Perhaps you can enlighten me with your good definition of a "political action committee".  I sure that would clear things up nicely.     Every solution now has to involve goverment --- I can not speak for you but as for myself --- for some reason I consider my little ol self part of da goverment  :o I alway think of myself as one of the wee people in We The People ! ! !  8)   As far as I am conserned Civilized People - which I think we ourselves are civilized people - get together and form a goverment to tackle problems.  Which brings us full circle to nonprofits - of course governed by goverment  ;)

Good point gentlemen.
So when the MVOC was busing people to the polls to vote and I'm sure influencing took place, is this crossing the line?

iwasthere

non profits can endorse an issue but they cannot endorse a person for an elected position.

kenneyjoe330

What about the Chamber of Commerce ?   Are they nonprofit and are they not against this amendment and voiced this opposition ?

Billy Mumphrey

Are not churches non-profit? Should not the pastor I saw on TV a few weeks ago who came out against the charter amendment be non-political as well?

Youngstownshrimp

The MVOC is a nonprofit, are not nonprofits required to be non political?

iwasthere

ytown shrimp what is your pt about mvoc supporting the ban, no big deal.

Youngstownshrimp

Got one of those Voice papers in the mail today, just like I said, the MVOC is supporting the charter.
Funny I noticed Phil Kidd writes for the MVOC, so Youngstown Nation is an extension of the ACORN group MVOC?

Youngstownshrimp

You go to Beiersdorfers FB and it is so dead, my cat has more action.
The charter will fail by a landslide.
The MVOC, GREENPEACE and the OCCUPIERS seem know Youngstown maybe a lost cause for their socialist nirvana because free enterprise is back with Major Product......OIL.

Billy Mumphrey

You may be right. We'll see on electon day. Apaprently the pro-frackers thought they did otherwise Bertas and Humphries would not have united nor would the pipefitters union throw in $58,000 to have the measure defeated.

Voter apathy is not anything new Billy whether it's here in Youngstown, or Warren or Tinbucktu. The only time we generate good turnouts is in Presidential elections, and in the others, we're luckey to have a 40% turnout especially in the Primaries. This has been true in all the elections that I've voted in since 1960.
