Changes at 20 Federal Plaza

With WASN going off the air, apparently the remaining stations in the group might move to their transmitter site in Campbell which makes economic sense as they wouldn't have to pay rent and all the facilities they would need are already there. With the end of WASN, their operating expenses would also be reduced.

I have absolutely no objections to an investor wanting to aim the stations programming to the Black communuity in this market. With so many other stations in the Youngstown market we need a well rounded mix of programming. In point of fact, when you look down the list of stations here, we are fortunate in that all the communities are being served, and that's the way it should be.

Latest talk is that someone local wants to keep both stations on the air with urban formats that were found on the old JAMZ FM station....

The stations in question (both low power stations) have changed owners and formats more often than a fat man changes his underware, and has not made any kind of profit for its owners, and with twelve other stations in this market hasn't made a real dent listenerwise, so I'm amazed that anyone, knowing their history would even want to invest in them.

As to relocating the studios, since the two stations share the same staffs, how many jobs would be lost to downtown ... 5?, 6?

It's possable that if they relocate it would be back to their transmitter site in Campbell since that site already has everything they would need since it was the first home for WHOT, and served as the first home for WASN, and this would make perfect sense from an economic standpoint.

Word on the street is that Plaza Optical will be moving into the front of 20 Federal Plaza at the end of January...where the current radio stations are housed......

we are losing another radio station with a local voice. plaza optical is doing quite well if they are moving to a bigger space.

The future of the 2 AM radio stations is up in the air. They will go off the air for a day, and both return with no announcers and just music up until about January 28th.
Word is a local buyer wants the 2 AM stations and will probably move them out of 20 Federal Plaza.
