    There's nothing like getting out in the garder early in the morning when the dew is still on the plants and armed with a salt shaker snack on a freshly picked tomato.

I believe that encouraging people to have a garden is a great idea in way more than one way.  Besides enjoying the "fruits of your labor" you also set an example to the children who "see for themselves" what fruits and vegtables look like and the effort and work involved in growing a garden.  Everyone who has ever had a garden knows how fantastic the first tomato tastes  and you would deny someone that pleasure ?   How about the first green beans out of the garden    tell me about the beets  I know I don't have to go on and on    When there is a run on stuff you share with others or can if ya can     Everything doesn't have to be grown on acerage and sold for a profit !!!  We are talking fresh picked cleaned and into your mouth right then and there  in your own yard or on your own block    Why on God's Good Earth would someone be against THAT  or against someone who is trying to get people to do gardening

Our neighborhood garden wasn't created to make money.  We share or exchange our garden bounty.  Most vegetables are delivered by walking or by bicycle (no gasoline used).  Yesterday we received some eggs from a nearby urban gardener who has some chickens.

First of all, a plot or two will never supply the demand of the urban dwellers.
Three years ago I met the leader of Grow Youngstown and showed that person the vast abandoned acreage on the Eastside with very few dwellings among the land.  This land can feed and supply probably more than the City inhabitants use.
No, IMO YNDC is just another MYCAP, MVOC, etc., a nonprofit funded to pay salaries to those who continue to live off the system..............in style.

Ron, are community organizers totally against large scale farms because large scale farming cannot be done in
local community neighborhoods?

Is it not that community organizers believe that small community gardens should be encouraged to help low income
individuals grow their own food and not spend as much money on fruits and veggies at the supermarket?

I agree, we need both, from the small vacant lot next door to all the acreage abandoned on the eastside of Youngstown, not to mention the Landbank lands paying no property taxes for decades and the City clueless on usage.  Problem is, the community organizers are totally against large scale farms, I lived it for three years.

Ron, why can't we have both types of farms? What is wrong with back yard gardening? Again I ask, were the backyard "Victory Gardens" during
WWII also socialist and communist in nature?

The Poland Farm Market according to the "clicker count" average 400 visitors every Saturday which is significant as far as a startup farmers market is concerned.  As usual, I visit and patronize the merchants and converse freely with them.
Two vendors are what I like to focus on, both are young men, who have completed the YNDC agriculture program but come from different worlds.  The first vendor, is a college student at an Ivy league school who comes from a family with significant acreage and envisions a large scale agriculture concern on acreage, obviously America's farming approach.  The second young generation vendor, is basically under the YNDC umbrella and argues that YNDC's mission is more back yard, side yard urban gardening.  This to me flies in the face of Pol Pot, Khmer Rouge and Mao's classless agriculture program wherein land is the State's and we are all equal and must produce our own produce from a small plot of land.
American large scale farms which feeds the world is not working for this socialist bent.  Like Cambodia, educators, entrepreneurs, the educated are no longer required, the proletariat must have them wither away.  Strange, I was told that YNDC is not interested in farming acreage but more so "The Peoples Gardens"  built by local landscapers.  No wonder why no Youngstown community organizers supported Shrimp  farming all the abandoned acreage of Youngstown, it is an American farmer's approach.
