The column in the Vindicator was written by Bertram DeSousa and it sounds as though he was at the light on Fifth Ave and Redondo.  He also says that he called 911 on his cell phone and he implies that he was the only one of the cars that was surrounded because he was on his cell phone.

If it happened to me, I'd try to use my cell phone to call the police while trapped
in my vehicle.  If "they" (meaning the perpetrators of this idiotic stunt) tried to
force entry into my vehicle, I too would be forced to put my car in gear and hit the
gas....

Where did this event take place, exactly?  Someone needs to catch these
hoodlums before someone gets hurt or  killed - INCLUDING the hoodlums,
themselves.

:/

I live on the North Side in the neighborhood where this happened and no I have never seen this type of thing before.

The article in the Vindicator said "Law enforcement types advise caution.  In fact, police will say that the best way to handle such an attack is to let the thugs blow off steam and then to get away quickly once they lose interest in you.  But that's easier said than done."

Notice that the author did not actually say that he talked to police he just tells us what they will say.  The author was also the guy that was swarmed.

I agree.

I would hit first then call once I was safe. Of course, I would be charged with hit and run, fleeing the scene of an accident, failure to control a motor vehicle, failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian, vehicular homicide or intent to injure with a motor vehicle, and then probably arrested and then sued by the idiots who I hit even though they were being stupid.

Did the article say what the police recommend doing in a situation like that?

If someone is that stupid to do something like that , I would probably freak out and hit the gas "fearing for my life" and then find the nearest cop to call an ambulance

The Sunday newspaper revealed a dangerous act being carried out by some young males on the north side.    These individuals block traffic and completely surround an automobile.   The car's occupants are afraid to move for fear of hitting them and are equally afraid to exit the car.

Has anyone on the north side experienced a swarming?

What would others do if confronted with this criminal behavior?
