I couldn't possibly agree with you more concerning "entitlement programs".  If you have NOT paid something into the program then, unless under very rare circumstances should there be a withdrawl - for Social Security I think you have to have worked 10 years .    While we are at this subject - what about companies SPENDING money they agreed to save for their employee's pensions - WOW is THAT Capitalism at WORK  :-X  talk about a money making deal - or just plain stealing ! ! ! Lying ! ! ! Hay - the rich got richer in that deal and the Federal Government has to take care of the w o r k e r s - the Capitalist got their money not to worry

If you are referring to entitlement programs meaning Welfare - yes something has got to be done.  It is not a good thing for people to continually receive assistance IF they CAN DO SOMETHING.   Maybe the former middle class people that have climbed up the ladder will think of something for them to do OR you can look at  Welfare as VERY POOR CAPITALISTS - they just get less money than Wealthy Capitalists which causes them to spend it quicker rather than keeping it and investing it to make them rich.  Both do their share though to keep America Clean, Green and BEAUTIFUL  :-*

Strange we never really question capitalism when the economy is booming like the steel mill days, let's say.  Capitalism is America and has always been, China is just doing a better job at it and not spoiling the masses with entitlements and business killing regulation.

I am sorry Mr. Dan - COMMUNIST CHINA is doing a BETTER JOB AT CAPITALISM than America ? ? ?  - Is that what I understand you to mean ? ? ? China sure has a lot of $$$$$ OURS and other countries too ! ! ! We sure owe them - like I owe the bank and credit card business ! ! !   I am sure EVERYONE in China has a job and are not discriminatory either and the news is fair and balanced and everyone has a car, a cell phone, a TV for sure and a computer in every room.   Makes me want to sign right up - how much of your investments is in China since that is where the money is - Oh I forgot your are one of the lower middle class people that didn't get rich and create jobs like most of the other middle class people did - did? or going to do yet - wait is all I have time to do ! ! !  Niiiiiice Idea = The New Capitalist America iiiiissss COMMUNIST CHINA ! ! !  Not to worry we will all be speaking Chinese soon enough -

Oh Mr. Dan - I enjoyed your Lady Thacher quote and can quite agree with you about 'riots' in the streets and can see it happening here in Ytown - truly.  What comes to my mind is a quote from a Lady - more like a Queen - across the channel from England - her quote is renowned and fits into this scenario quite well and the quote would be "Then let them it cake".  The Lords and Ladies of Congress "got theirs" as do their "friends" .   "THAT" would truly be the day when a rich person goes bankrupt or bust by paying taxes  ;D how silly is "THAT" thought .   IF I remember correctly in another thread you said there is an upward mobility of the middle class to get richer (sorry I see that it does not apply to you) and the richer one becomes the more jobs are created and the economy gets better - can I ask how long does that take ? ? ?   When will these upward mobility richer middle class people invest in something that gives poor AMERICANS jobs ?   I AM NOT talking Socialism but rather what is FAIR.  Lets take the wars we are in now that is a large drain on our current budget as an example - - - A poor person can enlist in one of the Armed Services of our country at the bottom of the barrel and low and behold in their life time can move to the top of the ladder (so I would like to believe.)  They would do this at the risk of literally life and limb.   Furthermore, the greatest majority will not even raise to the higher ranks of the enlisted - that is just the way it is - is it not?   Now a rich person - if they do enlist - can probably come in as a line officer and be ahead of the game.   Furthermore wealthy people can make excellent investments in war related industries (eg. clothing, guns) and pull in an excellent profit.  Good for them !  Now do you think it would be FAIR for the "regular person" to pay as much as a "wealthy person" for this war ?    I feel Capitalism can be just as bad if not worse than Socialism - in either case there is NO MIDDLE CLASS ! ! !  THINGS happen FAST nowadays and I can sense indignation in the air and change will come - probably ! ! !

Dan it is already happening, the entitled here in YTown are feeling the defunding and are out on the streets scoping out the working class to relieve them of property.
aka st. dominic church on the ytown southside is foreclosing on properties owners for their personal  gains. where was the dominician order when this area was going to hell in a handbasket?

Keep destroying the poor, Dan......

Your fat cat neo-cons love the fact that you goose step to their beat!

Sorry to ruin your portrayal of me, but I'm lower middle class; probably closer to "working poor".  If I had any kids still living at home I could have gotten earned income credit last year. As it was, I got back everything I paid in.

You are just lashing out in anger as is just about every leftist in the country, because as Lady Thatcher once said, "The trouble with socialism, is that you eventually run out of other people's money." And that's what your bumping up against. You're so called progressive friends have overspent to the extent that they can no longer borrow, or print money, and as the reality of the situation begins to sink in they are furious. It won't be too long, before you and your friends are out in the streets burning police cars and throwing bricks through store fronts.

Dan, you and your fat cat neo-con rich republicans are the goof balls.....

belly up and pay your taxes......

quit whining....be a man and pay your fair share!!!!

now go to bed you fool~

It doesn't matter how much they raise taxes, because the revenue received from them simply does not go over 19 or 20 percent of the Gross Domestic Product. Even before Reagan reduced the rates on the wealthy from 75 percent to 28 percent, it didn't matter. The wealthy will not pay it.  At a 75 percent rate the revenue still did not go over 20 percent of the nations GDP. They invest less, they work less, they move off shore, they structure their finances to take advantage of every tax loop hole, and probably things we can't even know about. But one thing is for sure. Historically, you are not going to get more than 20 percent out of taxpayers. Don't believe it? Google "income tax as a percentage of GDP" and you will find chart after chart showing you the history of tax collections.

The only way to raise revenue, is to grow the economy, and that ain't going to happen be taking money out of the economy. Ironically the Democrats cry that the stimulus just wasn't big enough, we need to pump more money into the economy, even if we have to borrow it or print it, then they turn around and want to take money out through taxes.

Unfortunately, the Democrats and goof balls like Dennis just don't seem to be able to look at history to see what works and what doesn't.
