Coal Plants Poison Ohioans

Hey Dennis its called a trade off.  Our high standard of living just doesn't happen.  Far more lives have been saved and life expectancies lengthened because of the luxury of having a continuous supply of electrical power.  Without those power plants we would see deaths in the thousands every winter when people would literally freeze to death.  Our country's population would have to be halved to bring energy demand down to the capability of the renewables to handle. 

So that is the real choice to make Dennis.  Maybe some people have shorter lifespans due to coal plants, but that is preferable to either a drastic reduction in standards of living or allowing millions to die to maintain the same standards with much less power availability.

I also refuse to believe that coal is such of a problem. We have lived through MUCH WORSE coal pollution, as this photo demonstrates:

Among all industrial sources of air pollution, none poses greater risks to human health and the environment than coal-fired power plants. Emissions from coalfired power plants contribute to global warming, ozone smog, acid rain, regional haze, and–perhaps most consequential of all from a public health standpoint – fine particle pollution. In 2000 and again in 2004, the Clean Air Task Force commissioned comprehensive studies of health impacts caused by fine particle air pollution from the nation's roughly 500 coal-fired power plants. Each study incorporated the latest scientific findings concerning the link between air pollution and public health, as well as up-to-date emissions information. Both found that emissions from the U.S. power sector cause tens of thousands of premature deaths each year and hundreds of thousands of heart attacks, asthma attacks, emergency room visits, hospital admissions, and lost workdays.

Ohio is ranked SECOND in the Nation in terms of the number of Ohioans who face premature deaths, emergency rooms visits, and heart attackes due to dirty coal plants.

Ted Strickland never met a dirty coal plant he didn't like. He supported the building of a new coal plant in meigs County. He supports building a dirty coal to fossil fuel plant in Columbiana County. Ted Strickland is supported by dirty coal plant energy companies such as AMP, Duke Energy,First Energy, and others.

It's time to stop Ted Strickland from hurting more Ohioans. It's time we elect a truely Green Governor who will put the health and environment first over PACS and corporations who posion Ohio citizens.
