You can't believe the damage Republicans have done in 12 years either, eh sarge?

and people want to give them more years in control??????YIKES!!!!!!!

sfc_oliver

Wow, 12 years vs 45 years and the Republicans are still at fault...........

Thanks for the wise wisdom you have shown us Dennis (not). Now try some common sense.

Look at those 12 years of Republican rule......massive tax breaks for the rich.....

cutting aid to the poor.......

sfc_oliver

Gee, and I thought that Democrats had control of the congress for nearly 4 years now.....

In fact 45 years since 1945 the congress has been under control of the Democrats, both houses.

Split between the parties for 10 years

And Republicans had control of both houses for 12 years

Now whose policies are keeping the poor , poor?

This is what conservative minds and ideas have led to......

Yesterday the Census Bureau reported (NTY) that another four million people fell below the poverty line just last year, with trends showing it will probably grow. 44 million Americans -- one in seven of us -- are now trying to make it on $10,830; $22,050 for a family of four.

"We're seeing more younger people coming in that not only don't have any food, but nowhere to stay," said Marla Goodwin, director of Jeremiah's Food Pantry in East St. Louis, Ill. The pantry was open one day a month when it opened in 2008 but expanded this year to five days a month.

Much worse, 6.3% of people in the USA suffered severe poverty, that is lived in households with income less than half the poverty line. This is the highest severe poverty rate on record. That means that over 19 million people in the USA live in households with income less than half the poverty line (severe poverty implies income significantly less than $ 11,000 yr for a family of four) [emphasis added]

This is dehumanizing and degrading and listening to it at all dehumanizes and degrades all of us. And the result is right in front of our faces: poverty grows, poverty becomes more extreme, wealth concentrates at the top, society becomes more cruel, the country falls further and further backwards. We have lived through a decade of conservative policies and an increasing poverty rate.

Tough Love is B.S.

Tough love gave us undeclared wars in Iraq TWICE in the last 20 years.....

Tough love gave us Wall Street Swindlers.....

Conservative ideas is the root of all evil.....

It is unfortunate that you come to this forum with such a closed mind artistelynn.  I note that you did not mention any of the shenanigans perpetrated by Democrats in your post.  Wearing blinders perhaps?

Do you not believe in individual liberty?  Do you wish to see that the poor and underprivileged never rise above their current lot in life?  Your adherence to liberal thinking without the possibility of considering that perhaps some conservative ideas have merit tell me that you would blindly follow along.  It is said that being a liberal is the easiest decision that a person could make.  The tough love of conservatism takes courage.

If you could get beyond the petty bit players and study conservative philosophy you might change your opinions.  But that requires an OPEN mind!

Basically we must all talk to every single person we know and get them to vote
Democrat since the Republicans are definitely against the people and for
their own wealth creation by enabling corporations to usurp government funds.
They need to be incarcerated, yet they continue to get away with it again and again.
When I lived in Texas I saw the result of massive foreclosures resulting from W's
brother Neal pillaging Savings and Loans (deregulation!!) in Texas in the 80s to
finance the other brother Jeb buying the Florida governorship. And we have witnessed
two stolen presidential elections first Florida and then in our fair state, engineered by
Ken Blackwell and Diebold. Listening to the debate on WYSU it is evident that Kasich
is yet another Big Finance criminal who is trying to appropriate our hard earned dollars
we contributed as taxes to benefit the public good. Get rid of all Republicans, (thanks
some of you Tea Bags) and elect Democrats who serve the public good not themselves
and Green Party candidates.

pushing city leaders to cut public employee salaries to the $24,000-a-year level he pays his own workforce—a level approaching Colorado's official poverty line for a family of four.

Well, maybe it isn't a function of government to provide streetlights, municipal water, parks, swimmingpools, fire department, police protection, and paved roads. Or it won't be, anymore. Someday, we'll have to pave our own roads. Scratch that. We'll be free to pave our own roads and hire our own police, etc.

My first question- If you are only making $24,000 a year why the hell do you have a family of four??? Read my post on being poor being caused by the decisions you make.  Keep it in your pants until you have the financial wherewithal to properly care for children for christs sakes!

Second question- All of the services that Colorado Springs is cutting are those services that are truly why government was created.  So since the tax rate has not gone to zero the city is still taking in money.  What are they doing with that money?  Clearly there is something fishy going on here.

Where will John Kasich's Tax Cuts Take Ohio?

David Sirota's description of what's happening to that conservative stronghold of Colorado Springs should serve as a cautionary tale.

Thanks to the city's rejection of tax increases—and, thus, depleted municipal revenues—The Denver Post reports that "more than a third of the streetlights in Colorado Springs will go dark; the city is dumping firefighting jobs, a vice team, burglary investigators, beat cops; water cutbacks mean most parks will be dead ... recreation centers, indoor and outdoor pools [and] museums will close for good; buses no longer run on evenings and weekends; [and] the city won't pay for any street paving."

Meanwhile, even with the Colorado Springs Gazette uncovering tent ghettos of newly homeless residents, the city's social services are being reduced—all as fat cats aim to punish what remains of a middle class. As just one example, rather than initiating a tax discussion, the CEO of The Springs' most lavish luxury hotel is pushing city leaders to cut public employee salaries to the $24,000-a-year level he pays his own workforce—a level approaching Colorado's official poverty line for a family of four.

This is what Reaganites have always meant when they've talked of a "shining city on a hill." They envision a dystopia whose anti-tax fires incinerate social fabric faster than James Dobson can say "family values"—a place like Colorado Springs that is starting to reek of economic death.
