I learned that the Oakland Center for the Arts may be in possession of one of those large movie projectors.  If this is the case, perhaps the Oakland could be convinced to use their theater to show movies during the summer or on Sunday evenings.

I am in 100% agreement.  I believe that this is a very realistic, viable, and reasonable goal to pursue.  I think most business owners downtown would most certainly be in agreement.  Downtown/YSU is the artistic core of the Mahoning Valley - any type of theater should/would be welcomed.

Perhaps a petition is a good first step?   I'll be downtown with a petition to save the Austintown Movies the next couple of weeks.  This should be a good indication as to what type of response to expect.

There is an attempt to keep the Austintown Plaza movie theater open.  A story about this effort appeared in Tuesday's newspaper.

Although it would be nice to have a large theater showing first run movies in downtown Youngstown, I don't forsee that happening in the near future.  On the other hand, a small theater catering to art films and independent movies would probably work.  I am in contact with individuals who attended these types of movies at the Austintown theater and am awaiting their comments about a downtown theater.  The alternative/artist community must remain a part of the downtown scene.

When we talk movies it MUST be a movie theatre with the big names; not these independent films no one in the area will see.

I, too would love to see a movie theater open up downtown.
There used to be many of them back in the day and the downtown
is slowly coming back to life - would be great to be able to catch
a movie without driving out to the 'burbs to a mall, etc.

I would love to attend movies again in downtown Youngstown.  During the summer, we saw "Meet Me in St Louis" on a screen set up on the square and enjoyed the unique experience of watching a movie under the stars.  If more recent movies could be shown year round in a small, indoor venue, dinner downtown with a movie to follow would make an enjoyable evening.

I believe Powers Aud. still has a screen for movies

Would members of the Flick Clique be interested in pursuing this project?

The movie theater in the Austintown Plaza will soon be closing.   Maybe we could convince someone to start an art movie theater in downtown Youngstown.  I wonder if one of the existing venues used for stage productions could also be used for the viewing of movies.
