The newspaper articles touting this achievement and Ryan's comments just go to show how little they understand the dangers facing our country; namely it's bankruptcy. 535 legislators, each vying to bring as much money to their districts with no regard to the harm posed by the Country's soaring deficits and debt. They rationalize it by pointing to the fact that if they didn't get the money, some other district will. All it indicates to me is that there is no leadership in Washington. Unless he's stupid, which can't be ruled out, Ryan understands the scope of the problem, but has chosen to worry more about his reelection than the future of America. Too bad.

It is past time to end Ryans seniority.

A word of caution. Mike Kerwin was in his day one of the senior ranking members of Congress, and extremely popular, but he was limited in what he was able to accomplish. Remember how hard he fought for a canal, but never got it, so don't expect Ryan to start pouring bushels of money into the district right away.

Mike was chair of the committee that would have gotten the canal, and Ryan is only a member of his committee, and not a ranking member at that, so we'll have to wait till the next congress to see just how much clout he's able to muster. Seniority counts.

It is not going to change my vote on him. Anyone hoping and praying the Federal Government is going to fix our economy on a local level is just plain silly. This appointment does nothing in terms of solving our number one problem: bringing private business to the Mahoning Valley.

Congressman Ryan  getting huge post in Congress

Regardless of what you might think about Ryan this is a big win for the valley.

Ryan also joined the Appropriations subcommittees on Financial Services and General Government and kept his seat on its Labor, Health and Human Services and Education subcommittee. He gave up seats on the Energy and Water and Legislative subcommittees.
