We need to pass universal health care in this state. Not only is it morally right, it would save the taxpayers money in the long run, and stop insurance comapnies from gouging us with ever increasing premimums just so such companies could continue to make outlandish profits.

This morning I was scanning old radio logs and came across this item for July 2, 1950

That program aired over 59 years ago.

Health reform became a coordinated movement during the unsuccessful 1912 campaign of progressive candidate Theodore Roosevelt. Franklin Delano Roosevelt attempted to make a national health insurance program part of Social Security, but deferred action until 1944, when he endorsed the Wagner-Murray-Dingell Bill. After Roosevelt's death in 1945, Harry S. Truman continued support of an expanded bill, but was defeated by lobbying from the American Medical Association, conservatives opposed to labor unions, and refocusing of concerns after the outbreak of the Korean War. On October 1949, Congress adjourned without acting on S. 1679 and H.R. 4312.

As you can see, the idea goes as far back as 1912.

So whats your point?  The closest health facility was in Canada.   Lets put this in perspective for your little brain to comprehend.  Lets say that the nearest hospital to Youngstown was located in Canton, but across the border in PA was the Sharon Hospital. Would you drive to Canton or go to Sharon, although that meant crossing a political boundary?  Wouldn't you choose the closest facility?
