Well, folks...

When we get a storm this bad it is inevitable that local/county street
departments have to play "catch up".

I live in Montgomery County, MD - the fifth wealthiest county in the United
States and it still took several days for them to catch up - with a street
department and road equipment and a budget that is hundreds of times
greater
than that of Youngstown, Ohio.  The streets in my neighborhood
still aren't completely cleared, and it may very well take another week
for the county to get them taken care of......and my city is the county seat
of Montgomery County - just as Youngstown is the seat of Mahoning County...

You can't always have everything, instantly, when a storm this severe
hits... given the size of Youngstown's street department and the budget
and equipment they have to work with, it's only natural that it is taking
time for them to clean up the mess that mother nature dropped on them.

I would imagine that their top priorities are the major roads - just at they
should be in any jurisdiction - and that they will, eventually get to the
"side streets", as time and resources permit them to do so.

Right now, we have so many wires down that it is making things pretty
tough for the road crews... they are having to work with the electric,
telephone, and cable companies to get the streets cleared before they
can plow them.

Our street on the west side was "plowed"  ??? Sunday morning.  A road grader came down our street this morning.  The grader did a better job of removing snow, but got it down to a layer of ice.

Downtown the west end finally got plowed.  When will the east end get plowed?  With all the people in attendance for Bishop Wagner's funeral yesterday I would have thought all of downtown would have been done before then.

The plow I saw on Mahoning Ave this morning had its blade up and was just dropping slag.

JRS,

FYI
Overnight, my street was plowed for the first time since the snowfall on Friday evening, February 5.  I guess six days wasn't too long to wait.

Woozle -

Those photos of the modified Nash are hilarious

I wish I had one of those here in MD - we already have more than a foot
of new snow... they finally plowed our street yesterday, and now you
can't even tell that it was plowed

I'm going outside after I have some hot coffee, and start digging out
my SUV all over again....

Ha Ha Ha Ha.... Yeah right.. Okay the main roads are fine.. but you need a snowmobile to get around on the side streets..

I found this one on another site.. Hmmm maybe I could buy it and charge for rides...
