Unequal circumstances do not REQUIRE additional government assistance.  Humans have the ability to adapt and thrive in situations far worse than those that even Americans with the most unequal circumstances experience.  We conservatives believe that each human has the God given ability for self improvement. The natural tendency of humans is to better him or herself.  Liberals believe that people do not have this ability, and must be "helped" by others who know better.

Conservatives know that not everyone is created equal, but we also know that to try to make everyone equal must ultimately bring the achievers down to the level of the non achievers in order to achieve this equality.  We instead feel that everyone should have an EQUAL CHANCE of achieving whatever individual level of success a person wants to.

Sure there are some who cannot participate due to mental or developmental malfunctions, but that number represents a very small percentage of the population.  Those people have always been taken care of, and that will of course continue. However, don't mistake the intellectually lazy for the intellectually disabled.

Maybe disabilities was the wrong word to use, people come with unequal
cirumstances which require additional government assistance.

DENNIS, CAN YOU SAY THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT?

irishbobcat

because not every person is equal, some come with disabilities and thus needs extra government help to sustain a suitable and reasonable form of living.

That's why you conservatives don't get it, Rick......

We have tried much of what is in that second bill of rights, and it doesn't work.

We've seen what happens when the government guarantees housing.  Its called public housing and with that guarantee comes the guarantee that you will be robbed, shot or raped if you live there.

The first bill or rights contained rights that were equal to all.  This "second" bill of rights can only exist by taking from some to give to others.

What the hell is wrong with limited government and every citizen being treated as equals and allowed to exercise their God given right to be free and productive citizens?  What is so damn offensive about that???!!!???

To be fair, it was the Democrats who pushed NAFTA, got us involved in the WTO which consistently rules against the U.S. in trade disputes, and GAT.

It is also the Democrats that push for open boarders, and the Republicans who support unfettered monopolistic pratices in spite of the fact that the earlier Republicans like Teddy Roosevelt fought monopolies tooth and nail.

As far as education, why would you even put that on the list when this is already a reality? Are there not free public schools that cannot deny anyone an education?

If you are referring to higher education, what would you substitute for what we already have ... free colleges and universities where anyone could attend regardless of their ability to meet college and university standards?

Where would the value be in deplomas from these schools be.

Doonsberry regulairly features such a college. Is that what you want?

Recreation. My God Dennis, are there not state and national parks, are there not amusement parks, has the YMCA and YWCA suddenly gone out of business?

Do not cities invest large sums in community playgrounds, hiking trails and bycicle trails.

What more would you have?

Environmentalists consistently oppose the use of state and national parks for any form of recreation and when a state tries to establish recreational facilities in state parks the environmentalists give them all sorts of grief.

As to national parks, these same emvironmentalists want them off limits to the public.

2nd Bill of Rights for all Americans!

The Second Bill of Rights was a proposal made by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt during his State of the Union Address on January 11, 1944 to suggest that the nation had come to recognize, and should now implement, a second bill of rights. Roosevelt did not argue for any change to the United States Constitution; he argued that the second bill of rights was to be implemented politically, not by federal judges. Roosevelt's stated justification was that the "political rights" guaranteed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights had "proved inadequate to assure us equality in the pursuit of happiness." Roosevelt's remedy was to create an "economic bill of rights" which would guarantee:
·   A job with a living wage
·   Freedom from unfair competition and monopolies
·   A home
·   Medical care
·   Education
·   Recreation
Roosevelt stated that having these rights would guarantee American security, and that America's place in the world depended upon how far these and similar rights had been carried into practice.

This bill of rights would make America great again.......
