Youngstown: Smoky Hollow Memorial Day Service, 11:15 a.m., at Walnut Street and Rayen Avenue.

Youngstown: Memorial Day Program/Dinner sponsored by the American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary George Washington Carver Post 504, 2225 Glenwood Ave. Join us in honoring our fallen comrades at 5 p.m. at the dinner. Keynote speaker will be Robert Bush, assistant Mahoning County prosecutor, and the guest speaker will be Steffon Jones of Youngstown, historical researcher and Civil War re-enactor

Youngstown: VFW Post 6468 and its Ladies Auxiliary will honor widows of military personnel during their Memorial Day service Monday. Former state Sen. Harry Meshel, representing Gov. Theodore Strickland, will present special tributes to the widows at the ceremony, which begins at 1 p.m. at 2065 Coitsville-Hubbard Road. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Shawn D. White, adviser to the commander of the 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna, is the keynote speaker. He will be introduced by Judge Robert P. Milich of Youngstown Municipal Court, a retired Air Force colonel. Special recognitions also will be paid to the widows by Mahoning County Commissioners Anthony Traficanti and David Ludt, and by Ray Ornelas on behalf of Barry Landgraver, director of the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission. The program includes placing a wreath at the flag pole by Lloyd O. Mims Sr., past post commander, and Henry Clarett, past county commander, said program chairman, Herman Adams.
