Just like a one day gas boycott, what you did was utterly meaningless!  The energy that was saved during this PR event was used up when you participated in the spike in demand by turning everything back on at 9:30 pm.

I laugh thinking of those of you who sat there shivering in the dark thinking that you are actually helping the planet.  I'll bet you felt good about it, but it didn't accomplish anything.

The evening was quite pleasant, actually.  I had my windows open.  When it was all over, the only things I turned back on was the TV, and a lamp. (with a CFL bulb)

Should we organize for the Lights Out Ohio event on Wednesday, April 22 (Earth Day)?

Each of us could contact our neighbors and send emails to our friends in advance of Lights Out Ohio Day.

I participated, but was also guilty of not organizing anything.

A thread about it AFTER the fact certainly doesn't help. ;)

While I'm just as guilty of not trying to organize anything (mainly because I have my doubts as to human activity being a primary cause of Global Warming), my family did participate. My ten year old son Matthew was the catalyst. We shut off all the lights and power strips, turned down the furnace so it wouldn't run, then lit some candles and played Scrabble.  The refridgerator ran twice and the digital clocks stayed on but I don't feel it's a good Idea to use the main breaker as a switch as Matt would have liked.

Did anyone else actually participate?

Earth Hour was observed in many countries this evening.  I don't recall anyone trying to organize this event in the Mahoning Valley this year.
