Thanks for posting the positive news.  I live on the West Side and after a bad experience with West have been sending my son to a private school.

There is a pretty strong possibility that my oldest son will end up back in public school again and I have no idea what I will do when my other 2 kids are school age.

It's nice to hear something positive about a public school.

I would like to read the article though.  Seems strange that none of the other "good" schools in the area were mentioned.

U.S. News and World report released their list of the nation's top public high schools over the weekend. Included in the list were Canfield and CHANEY High Schools, which both received a bronze star rating, placing them in the top 10% of the 21,000 schools analyzed. These two schools were the only ones in the Youngstown area to be recognized for the high quality of academic programs offered based on state proficiency tests and preparedness for college.

This national recognition proves what Westsiders have always known: that Chaney High School offers high quality education that is unparalleled in the valley. Considering the poverty and crime rates of the school, along with the district's financial struggles, the fact that Chaney still ranks so high is all the more impressive.
