Number of Youngstown arsons down dramatically

Youngstown firefighters watch this vacant 463 S. Forest Ave. home on the East Side burn down last April in a blaze that was ruled an arson. The city saw just 52 house fires that were arsons in 2018 and nine vacant building fires, the lowest in recent years. City officials credited the city's demolition program for the downturn because it reduces the stock of vacant homes to burn.
