As a ten year old kid, I used to listen to "Radio Mystery Theater", hosted by
(George? Edgar?  hmmm....)) Marshall on the AM radio - I think it was
WKBN that used to carry the syndicated show.  We would sit around the
camp fire while listening to scary stories....and roast marshmallows.

Can anyone here who can remember the days when radio stations had drama, comedy and soap operas?

Likewise can anyone remember the days when Big Bands who had their own radio programs would broadcast their shows from here?

When WFMJ was radio only, they had network shows broadcast from their master studio when big bands were in town, and local folks could come into the studio for these broadcasts.

If you're old enough to remember those good old days of radio, what were your favorite programs?

This should be very interesting. Youngstown radio and television stations have turned out many broadcasters that went on to positions at major networks. WKBN and WKBN TV lead the pack, with WFMJ coming in a close 2nd.

Two that come to mind are Marc Howard and Al Hallaman both of whom were at WFMJ radio back in the '50's. They both hit the big time in New York and Philidelphia.

A lady newsey from WFMJ-TV went on to be with CNN

A DJ  Allan Freed (ph) from WKBN is honored in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

A newsey from WKBN radio went on to be with CBS.

A number of others are honored in the Radio Hall of Fame. Two being Dan Ryan and Pete Gabriel.

The event will be a panel discussion on the history of local broadcasting.  Individuals from the local broadcasting community will relate first person accounts of covering major local news stories and discuss the past, present and future role of local broadcasting in the Valley.
