This event is being sponsored by The Mahoning Valley Historical Society, the Ohio Historical Society's Youngstown Historical Center, YSU Center for Working Class Studies, YSU Center for Applied History, the Mahoning Valley Association of Churches, and the Office of Social Action/Diocese of Youngstown.

This FREE event will be held on Wednesday, September 19, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Youngstown Historical Center (Steel Museum), 151 West Wood Street in Youngstown.

The event will be moderated by Dr. Sherry Linkon from YSU's Center for Working Class Studies, and will begin with a viewing of some portions of the documentary film Shout Youngstown.  A panel discussion will follow that will include William Farragher, a former steel company marketing manager; Staughton Lynd, a labor attorney for the Ecumenical Coalition; Reverend Edward Weisheimer, of the Ecumenical Coalition; and Gerald Dickey, United Steel Workers of America member and activist.  The audience will be invited to ask questions.

A reception will follow and guests will be able to view the exhibits at the Steel Museum.

Black Monday, the first announcement of the closing of several steel mills in the Valley, occurred on Monday September 19, 1977. This year marks that event's 30h Anniversary.
Join us on Wed Sept 19, 2007 from 7-9 at the Steel Museum on Wood Street in Youngstown to view the portions of the movie, "SHOUT YOUNGSTOWN" and join panelists to discuss what happened that day and its impact.

On Thanksgiving of 1977, a group of clergy and religious leaders published a document of faith-filled people calling for a new corporate social responsibility.  The Ecumenical Coalition was formed, chaired by Catholic Bishop James W. Malone and Episcopal Bishop John Burt, along with several Jewish and Christian leaders.  The Ecumenical Coalition started a SAVE OUR VALLEY campaign to create a worker/owner steel company.
